Of all the people saying what a twat he is and how what he did was so terrible and he should be hung, drawn and quartered etc, out of interest have you ever actually played football? Have you ever got frustrated and kicked out at anyone? Just interested like.

Stay at home Roo, you gotta learn BOY. It would be completely unfair on other players to take him and there is no way fab will. England will fail without or without Roo anyway....

Haven't read the thread but definitely take him. IF we get through the group it could be a blessing in disguise, having a fresh Rooney to unleash on the tournament.

I'd definitely agree. We've got out of the groups of major tournaments in the last few decades, but always failed in the knockout stage. To have a rested Rooney ready to come into the team would be a massive bonus, even if he isn't automatically selected given the team might (*cough* *splutter*) have been playing well.

My factory team lost 17-2 to Beacham's 3rd team.... I nearly kicked our keeper.

I am amazed it was three matches. It was stupid and petulant - but not malicious - and it was never going to actually injure.

No excuses. Rooney is not an impetuous kid any more, but an experienced 'professional' Premiership and Champions League player, plus has been to various Euro and World tournaments. He is also a marketing icon for various commercial partners and paid a fortune for the privilege. He has no excuse for the unnecessary foul that rightly earned him the red card when England were comfortably leading their rivals and had qualification just about sown up. The other countries must be pissing themselves with laughter. Shows the total lack of intelligence that makes him unfit to wear the England shirt. He gave no thought to the consequences for his team or fans so does not deserve our support, end of.

If he was star player in your pub team who stitched you for no good reason on the eve of qualifiocation for what might be your only major tournament then he would get short shrift and never hear the end of it.

Will be good to have a tournament free from the Rooney (and Beckham) circuses.

Any success at the Euros will be that much sweeter knowing it was acheived without him. If we fail then he should be a scapegoat rather than the youngsters that might get a chance in his place. They are our future.

It'll just be someone else, though. My money would be on Andy 'Biffa Bacon' Carroll. If he goes. And there's plenty of time for Danny Welbeck to have shagged a few grannies by then.

Yes, since I was 5, and not once have I been sent off or kicked somebody. This isn't the first time, and won't be the last.
There has to be a point where we stop putting up with such a f*cking shit attitude from 90% of the England team. To take a player banned for the first 3 games is stupid. I'd happily take Welbeck or somebody similar instead, he'll be a top player by next year.

Can't remember how big the squad is but we always take people that never feature.....leave one of them at home and get Rooney in the squad. Stupid to say he shouldn't be there......do you think Portugal would leave Ronaldo at home if he was suspended? Na..

True, but some people are just like that. If he didn't have that aggression he wouldn't be the same player. A lot of top players have had this issue, Zidane, Maradona, even Pele, none of them were adverse to giving a whack every now and then.

I bet other people in your team have though, yes? Put those players in a stadium with thousands of people screaming at them and under immense pressure and kick them all game, and they would do the same thing. I don't think it is something you can coach out, and to be fair to Rooney he is a lot better at this these days. Look at Beckham, even now he gets the odd red card. Some people are just like that. All this "He's paid 100k a week he should be able to control it" is irrelevant really. He's a fiery, thick Scouser, and it wouldn't matter if he was playing for England or his work 5-a-side team, he would still be the same.

Why do people keep saying they'd take Welbeck instead? I'd have thought at this point, if Welbeck stays fit, he's going regardless of whether Rooney is there or not.

I'd assume we are taking 4 strikers, of which Bent is probably the certainty now. I'd say Welbeck is currently ahead of Carroll, Crouch, Zamora and Defoe. Carroll and Zamora have no big tournament experience, but I suspect they'll feature in the forthcoming friendlies. So if Bent and Welbeck are going, then 2 out of Carroll, Crouch, Zamora, Defoe and Rooney will also be going, and one of that 4 will be guaranteed to be on the bench for the first 3 matches anyway, so it might as well be your best player, even if his temper lets him down.

Unfortunately, this is going to be a season-long soap opera now.

Whatever is decided (presumably in May), if Rooney happens to have a good season for Man Utd, there will be more newspaper and media pressure to pick him, if he doesn't, the reverse will be true.

Great.

If we were to get through the group stages, think how much of an impact he COULD make, better to have him then not to.

He played a vital role in qualifying.....He has earnt his place in that respect.

Who would take his place in the 23? Jermain Defoe? No thanks.

Did he? I think he was suspended at the start of it, he went all weird last season, and then he got sent off. How many goals has he scored over the last 20 odd games? Leave him at home, he's no great loss.

Come on, there is always a side show with England. This is what makes them England. It wouldn't be the same if the players conspired to make everything run smoothly.
