It would be fantastically amusing to see United finishing 3rd in the group and being booted into the Europa League :lolol:

The pubs in Surrey must be getting a bit worried, think of the trade they would lose.

And a stunning success if they win the group then. Even though finishing second and still qualifies them for the knockout stage. In what way is that in any way a failure?

Are you joking? If they finish second (behind a pretty average Benfica team) then in all likelihood they will play one of Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona or, amazingly, Apoel Nicosia. If they win the group they play Napoli, Trabzonspor, Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, Zenit St Petersburg or Ajax. Can you really not see the difference?

Manchester United are so lucky, they will get Apoel.

Not joking at all, United, like City are both genuine contenders to win the competition, along with the 2 Spanish clubs, and maybe a Milan and Bayern. What difference does it make what side they play in the next round (knockouts)? They have to beat whoever is put in front of them, in all likelehood they will have to beat one of the main contenders before they even get to the final. There is no failure until they are out of the competition. Of course, that doesn't satisfy some one here, but there you go.

Of Course. I would say (in my opinion) they are stronger. With the additions of Alexis Sanchez and Fabregas and no really leaving (except Bojan - off the top of my head)

Not all is well at the Camp Nou though, apparently Villa and Messi don't get on and that may explain why Villa has been starting on the bench recently. Other teams also seem to be finding ways of coping with Barca's style of play better and are getting draws in games they would normally expect to be trounced. Of course they are still hammering teams at home most weeks and haven't conceded at the Camp Nou for 10 or so games, but there has been signs of chinks in their armour this year and I think Madrid are ready to pounce.

City are practically knocked out now aren't they?

Manchester United are so lucky, they will get Apoel.

So lucky that since 1992 they have won 12 Premier League titles (out of 18), 2 Champions League finals, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, some other cups, and no-one else has come close to them. It's not luck, AF is pretty much the greatest manager that has ever done the job, and he has put together some of the most successfull teams in English football History.

Now if you are talking about luck in football, talk about the luck a team from from the norht side of Manchester, Division 3 a few years back, who were bankrolled to the tune of £194m last year alone, luck that has put them top of the Premier League at the moment. Or the luck of a perennial underachieving side from West London who met a Russian benefactor a few years back, OK, not so lucky that they could get round to winning the CL, but pretty lucky all the same. Lucky Man United have a bit of competition nowadays I guess.

They need to beat Bayern Munich at the CoM and hope that Villareal beat Napoli.

The point is that, in order to win the competition, you have to be able to beat the next best team in the competition. Man United so far have failed to even beat Benfica. It hardly bodes well. When the groups were announced everyone was complaining that Man United had secured an easy group. Scraping through is hardly the mark of a great team, is it?

Well it was lunchtime, I had a bun with some ham and mustard, a soft drink, and then took a snoop at NSC. Researching a few stats is hardly time consuming.

How dare anyone question Fergie. It is clear that despite only beating one team - the worst in Champions League history - in their five matches to date, and leaking goals against the others, United are in no way struggling. Oh no.

I'm surprised he didn't produce a football from under the table, that he could take home with him.
