We must go for it at Cardiff. I don't want a repeat of last night's defensive display. God we only started playing when it looked like we were going out. Let's attack and show that we can play a bit. After last night, Oatway must not be in the team and OGH must start - all he did was run at them with the ball but we looked SO much better when he was on. So with that in mind, I'd start with Hart up front with Leon out wide like Coppell sometimes used to play him. If we sit back and play on the break we will lose.

My team for Cardiff:

Roberts

Sir Adam Virgo, Cullip, Butters, Mayo

Knight , Reid, Carpenter, Jones

Hart Big Chris

Subs: FDM, Harding, McPhee, Piercy, Oatway

oops. missed this thread :dunce:

With the space on the wings Hart definitely has to start. I have a gut feeling that MM will surprise us all & go for 4-3-3. Personally I would start with the following, but think Piercy will have a role to play at some point. I thought he looked good when he came on. Oatway is going to be needed to kick Scott Murray & the likes. With Reid in midfield we'll be overrun.

Roberts
Lord Adam Virgo of Sussex, Butters, Cullip, Harding
Hart, Oatway, Gippy, Jonah
Knight, Afro

Subs: Kuipers, Mayo, Piercy, Robinson, Reid

what did jones do last night or on sunday apart from a few aimless runs with no final ball.. He provided absolutely no support for harding - who was up against igoe arguably towns best player.

chippy had a bit of an off day

one thing we have to do is stop hoofing the ball aimlessly.
it doesnt work, and 99% of the time gives the ball to the opposition.

worst culprits are harding and virgo both who consistently spurned opportunities to pass to a colleague for some wild hoofing.

Pot ... kettle ... black.

My winning formula would be to sign Shipperley and play him up front with Virgo for the last thirty seconds.

It was a very high risk strategy to think we'd snatch a last minute winner without having someone to take out the goalkeeper when the header was aimed in. Palace were better organised. We should learn from them.

I would prefer a similar formation to the one used against Plymouth in the first half, with Piercy in the hole behind the front two.

Harding did have a poor game yesterday but at least he has pace which cannot be said for Mayo. We will need this against city.

I thought Hart changed the game and Piercy made a real difference aswell. Who to leave out? that's a tough one I would suggest that oatway and reid would be the likely casualties. I'm sure Leon would relish the big stage of the playoff final, but I agree he was disappointing last night.

The problem Leon and Chris had last night was that the midfield was too far away from them and gave them no support, hart and Piercy really connect the front two to the rest of the team, and i'm sure we would have seen a different leon had this been the case.
