This is probably the end of an era for Sussex, an era which probably should have seen more success than it has. Today is almost certainly the end for Salt and Jordan in a Sussex shirt, who knows about Wright and Bopara. Archer, Garton and Robinson going to be spending long periods away with England (and franchise T20 teams), then probably get picked up by a test county. Possibly Mills too with his resurgence this summer. Likely to be a fair few long, hard summers to come down here.

Yep. And to be fair the last few have not been much fun either. A very sad decline.

We have no money and yet we can afford to have t20 only players. And when it comes down to it, they come up with it that. Ravi was out to a good ball, but he was having a walking wicket day anyway. Weise is shot. Delray is devoid of confidence - badly managed? As for Luke Wright - his whole year culminated in that innings and he gives his wicket away in comedy village cricket style. :(

It is a shame. A batter light really, and one of those in Wiese hasn’t really fired all season. That pool of players have done consistently well over the last few years, and will be gutted not to have lifted a trophy. Now time to rebuild with what’s left.

That went well.. .

Going to be a long, hard, cold summer next year.

Indeed, I think that was the last hurrah for several of those players, we can fully expect to be bridesmaid's at best in all competitions next season.

Those among us who can recall Grizzly, Muzza and Murray at least have the memories.

I still have fond memories of a September evening in the Cricketers Pub in 2007 when I celebrated Sussex winning the County Championship again. Little did I know that would be the last, probably in my lifetime

What a night though

So glad we forfeited three County Championship games, saving our, senior players for that. Excellent, excellent strategy. Well done everyone.

It's absolutely vital that at this time of current crisis Sussex do all they can to hold on to our chief executive....

Well, it's more than that really, isn't it.

SCCC didn't just forfeit 3 games, they pretty much rethought the entire club and season around "all that matters is the T20".

I get that this is the way the wind is blowing for the game, and I can't profess to know the ins and outs of how other counties have addressed it, but it does feel like we went all in on it as a strategy.

And are ultimately left with failure in both areas:
– An increasingly-comprehensive battering in the county championship, that consequently feels hard to see as a 'healthy development roadmap for our youth' (does getting utterly tonked with no senior players around to learn from really help them?).
– A limp exit from the T20, that although it went one round further than the last few seasons was in the end just as underwhelming.

And with the supposed T20 stars now departing en masse, quite where that strategy now leaves us I'm not sure.

As a Minor County?
