Did Libya's neighbours not ask Nato to attack to stop the killing?

Who cares? The governments around the gulf do not represent the views of their people, they are just run by the biggest bullies. This is what is needed to govern, as there is no room for democracy in such a society.

Why is it ok for women and children to be shot, blown to pieces, bombed and shelled( by both sides, by the way), but if you gas them then the west gets all het up, and wants to bomb more innocent civilians, to prove how immoral it is to kill civilians. If the west bombs the nerve gas supplies, they dont just magically disappear, they hang around and kill more people. If we wanted to get involved in this bloodbath, it should have been two years ago.

That was the Republicans not the Democrats, there are different people in charge

Oh do get real. It is the whole US government, not one party or another. If you really think it is party political, ask yourself why they don't attack Isreal when there is a Democrat President. Their enemys know the US will help to defend them whichever party is in the Whitehouse.

So just give up on them, they are not intelligent or strong enough to choose their own leaders? That is the kind of direction that let the Taliban take over Afghanistan when we abandoned the country and allowed AQ their comfortable base for almost a decade. How did that go for the West?

Sarin gas can be deployed in a number of ways - The rebels claim that it was delivered by missiles or artillery, but there is no evidence of that in any of the hundreds of videos and photos of the event.

Especially during the early stages of the uprisings, they overcame many of the SAA military compounds, you will often find them using military equipment and in all probability they gained these chemical weapons from these strongholds too.

They used them against their civilians for the same reasons they have been massacring innocent people from the start - for propaganda and oppression

There have been pictures of the planes dropping them and a UN inspector looking at a shell that delivered it, also the recorded phone intercepts from the Assad regime

You don't follow must US politics do you? Why would they attack Israel? I might think they should but they still see them as a friend. The attitude to Israel has totally changed since 2009

In various nbc courses in the navy, we were told that a chemistry graduate with a chemistry setcould make chemical weapons, the difficult bit is thedelivery system.

You really are rather stupid aren't you? AQ as you call them, only get support from the west's involvement in things where they are not wanted. If we kept out of their business, we would have afar better chance of them keeping out of ours.

We need to, at most, use special forces and weapons for precision strikes against the leaders. Not, I may add, indescriminate attacks from drones that constantly kill hundreds of civilians.

The issue to me isn't who did the gassing, just that whoever did needs sorting.

But what I see from the tree hugging brigade is that nothing should be done.

Deluded idiots.

You talk tough for someone thousands of miles away from danger when volunteering other people's lives. Call me a tree hugger but you have no idea what it's like to lose someone in war. And you make me quite cross with the extremely polarised drivel you write on this matter. As if you're even remotely qualified to pour scorn on people not quick to rattle the proverbial sabre. Come back when you're a Tory man perhaps. Because "boy" you sound.

But that is exactly what is being planned, 2 or 3 days of precision attacks on government targets, what do you think is about to start?

Yeah, and Iraq had weapons of mass destruction...

Assad, who is in the strongest position since the uprising began, randomly decides to gas innocent civilians ahead of a UN inspection....

You have two options - try to understand the situation and use your head - or just believe everything the US government tells you, because they are clearly an honest bunch with absolutely no hidden agendas....

Totally this. Not forgetting that, according to Goebbels, Polish espionage troops attacked a German border post to kick off ww2...!

I did not say or imply that at all. They just do not really get the concept of democracy, and are too fragmented to be ruled without an iron fist. Look at the blood bath we have left behind in Iraq.

What's the difference between 'not being intelligent or strong enough' and 'they just do not really get the concept of democracy', of course that is what you are saying!

How big are the "government targets"? Are there civilians there? Are we ONLY going to kill their leaders and nobody else? Will we ****! we will kill loads of people. Just because they are government targets, not all government workers deserve to be killed - even IF their learder ordered a chemical attack.

So you just sit back and watch the innocent get gassed?

I suggest you grow up and deal with the issue at hand, not spout your misguided rhetoric.

Innocents are getting gassed, and you want to play silly games.

No it is not at all. The arabs are not like us, that is not calling them stupid. They will believe what their religious leaders tell them, they still have tribal leaders in many cases, they are not used to te concept of all having one vote, and if your side don't win, then you keep quiet and accept the majority decission for 4, 5 of however many years.

Look at Russia, they have rejected democracy and are thriving under the dictatorship of Putin.
