I must say I find this quite bizarre. It was awful that it was felled in that fashion - but the tree itself was nothing special - it's where it was and the framing of it in the gap and so on.

I have spent years of my life chopping down sycamore trees because they are a non-native, invasive species that support little or no wildlife and shades out our native trees with it's oversized leaves. To think that we're now propagating from it is just, well - odd.

People are sentimental. That's not bizarre, however sentiment often has no place for logic.

Not, of course, to prejudice the trial, but that is not the attire one would typically associate with innocent men...
Should have been wearing one of these as disguise really

BBC News - Sycamore Gap sapling gifted in memory of boy with cancer
Yep, saw this on the news and they have a load of saplings to put out there for good causes - I’m afraid it will be more bait for the w******s who spend their lives destroying the little things that matter to others.

There are multiple shoots growing from the original stump, which have been thinned out, to give the tree a chance of growing well.
In the meantime, the removed shoots have been replanted, grown and now distributed around the country.

Sadly, trees growing from suckers, are likely to look more like a bush than the original tree and even if pruned to encourage a single stem, they are prone to disease and much weaker structurely.

But life is life.
