Out of interest what were the other infractions for? A ban solely for this thread's escapades would have been brutal moderation

Dunno. I judged that the activities on this thread deserved a minor infraction. I gave it, but the system then said that it would result in a short ban under the totting up procedure. I guess I could check what they were for, but I'm not that interested in what other mods have judged to be infractionable behaviour on other threads....

Have you seen that guys posts? He adds nothing of worth. Tonights infraction might be a little harsh, but he's had plenty of chances and if he had refrained from posting just one time he wouldn't have the other infractions. The board will be a better place for 3 days IMO.
Adding something of worth is a requirement ? Really ??!! What about all the BS posted by many others ? I get less frustrated by a few pisspoor attempts at wind-ups from a kid than at the constant flow of negativity, the ridiculous transfer rumours from people who are 'ITK' but actually know 'SFA', the ongoing criticism of anything the club does etc.
Judging by the majority of the posts on this thread from other users and the report to mod towers, you're in the minority. I absolutely agree that it was in no way worthy of a ban in and of itself and I didn't give one. However, I do think that if other mods have determined completely independently that other posts in other threads in the recent past have been worthy of a slap, then if a short ban under the totting up procedure is what comes out, then it's probably deserved. The mods are far from a homogenous group of people - we're just a divergent bunch of people who generally don't know each other prior to becoming a mod (for example, the only people I've met - even now - is Bozza and El Presidente, and them only once each and separately), so if two or three of them deem that a slap is justified, there is almost certainly something not quite right in the behaviour...
One of the guidelines that I use in trying to decide whether to act or not is what the general reaction to the post(s) has been from other users. If there's a clear consensus one way or the other, that affects any action I may take. There are very few things that are absolutely black or white (posting of porn is one such clear no no), and in the main, the users are, en masse, pretty self regulating...in my very limited experience.

Which is the right way to do it. Otherwise you'd just get your shit penalty taker sent off on 120 minutes. This way we'd have been able to relieve Ankergren and Chicksen (for example) from penalty duty, giving US the advantage - as it should be, with us able to keep 11 players on the pitch.

Neither your first or last assertion is correct, and the middle one is only partially correct. I'll repeat what happened in fewer words:
1) I wanted to give him a small slap.
2) I gave him a small slap.
3) My small slap meant that he got a ban under the totting up procedure.
4) I could have reversed my slap so that the ban that was automatically generated was reversed. I chose not to do that.
That's it.
At no stage in my previous post did I refer to "playing by the rules", nor did I imply that was the explanation.
Otherwise, your riposte is entirely accurate.
