tiswas started in the midlands (atv) in 1973/4. it was quite sensible at first until chris tarrant took over. and it got better and better especially once they realised most of the audience weren't kids

Tiswas was QUALITY.

Absolute sheer choas - applied to be in the cage several times but never got in.

Tiswas was about the only vaguely acceptable kid's programme on ITV (Chorlton and the Wheelies would be the other).

These days it's a chav channel. The signs were there way back then.

This Saturday night (16th) ITV 1 at 9:15 for an hour and a half Tizwas is back.....

Chris Tarrant, Sally James and Lenny Henry front this celebration of the anarchic and groundbreaking Saturday morning children's series, which ran for eight years from 1974. Joining in the fun and sharing their memories of the show are former team members Bob Carolgees, John Gorman, Sylvester McCoy and Frank Carson, as well as Status Quo and the legendary Phantom Flan Flinger. The dreaded Cage also makes a return, filled with willing victims ready to get a drenching

I watched when it was on ATV - it was never that sensible. I remember Trevor East - who became a big TV Cheese - on all fours kssing the shoes of an embarrassed Roy McFarland. It was required student watching.
