Swansea: a model for the Albion?

Well done to Swansea who have passed their way into the Premiership. Very good to see. It seems like a very well run club. They've appointed and then backed intelligent managers, brought wisely without breaking the bank, (Scott Sinclair, what a bargain at 500K) and have improved the team over a number of years.

A good model to try and emulate which I'm sure will have NOT gone unnoticed by Bloom...

Bit harsh. I'm sure Bloom has noticed Swansea's model.

Agreed. There are a couple of decent models we can use for different aspects, Swansea is a good one on the playing front, Norwich is another for generating and maximising support in the county (we have drawn on their example already, I believe the club went to see them a good while back).

To be honest, Scott Sinclair is exactly the kind of signing that Gus now needs to pull out of the bag with his contacts, and I'm sure he will.

Scott Sinclair at that price was deal of the century. Much like the bargain for Van De Vaart spurs got

I still maintain Steve Coppell buying Kevin Doyle and Shane Long for Reading for £100,000 the pair from Cork is going to take some beating for that title. One's gone for £6million, the other is likely to follow for £5m or so this summer I'd have said. Not a bad return, with a few goals during their stay.

Now that they have gone up I would not be at all surprised if we were to sign Ryan Harley as I am not sure that he is realistically a Premiership player yet or likely to get a look in.

Swansea game is very similar to the Albion's passing and pressing and when they come under pressure they try to keep the ball

quite pleased that Swansea made it to the premiership nice team good manager

Agreed, though I'd have thought we're an even bigger club? Though there attendances have been decent since moving to the new stadium.

Chuffed for Swansea but heard someone from the club on the radio earlier who said that they aimed to emulate Stoke in their approach to the Premiership, so I guess that means the end of the beautiful passing game that got them there in the first place!

I think there's a couple of models to consider 1) Football -wise it's probably WBA that Swansea will be linked to and if they play good footy but get relegated they could yo -yo as they did until they brought in Woy Hodgson or 2) Financial -wise if it is Stoke then that's a good thing in my book - 4 years of Prem footy and money without spending silly money and being debt free means they are now 'established' and can bring in and pay better players (and tempt them with Europa footy). I'd take the 'get into the Prem' and stay there model myself ... TB may think otherwise tho' ;o)

I would take the get to the Premiership and not spend ludicrous amounts trying to stay there approach, if you get away with it then the money will roll in from all the sponsorship and tv deals...if not, you still get a fair amount and invest it in trying to get back again, in effect mirroring the approach of the other Albion.
