Wells gone nibbling again.

Terribly short of confidence. I'd like to see the remainder of this innings played out much more positively. Nothing to be gained by prodarsing around.

Is it still prodarsing if you can't actually lay a bat on the ball?

If poking around then, yes. More positive attempts to hit the ball have greater chance of success.

We're making these Northants bowlers look like Richard Hadlee on a green seamer at Trent Bridge in 1981...

Chopra not impressed either... or impressive for that matter... 41-4

Sussex heading for their worst defeat v Northants since the Manor Ground, Worthing in 1963.

Worst defeat ever v Northants unless they can get to within 175 of their score.

So only another 280 or so required

Dreadful

Worse than that defeat. Can you see us getting within 175 of our target? So, worst defeat ever against Northampton -not worst since any time.

Nothing will change. The Sussex faithful are far too polite to challenge the hierarchy (the "Sussex Family"), the coach has said it's not acceptable and the players are either unwilling to try harder or unable to try harder because they are shyte.

Chopra - 27 runs in 2 innings. Let's revisit what Gillespie said about this signing:

“We haven’t been as effective with the bat this season as we would like. We’ve given guys lots of opportunities but feel now is the time to strengthen our line-up. Varun was available and as an experienced player with a proven first-class record he fits the bill perfectly for the strong batting performances we’re looking for."

Today our top 4 amassed 36 runs between them. What's the betting either Beer or Robinson - or both - will better this total by themselves?

That's what the committee thought in 1997, they were in for a rude awakening.

I was there for the Night of the Long Knives, a most extraordinary atmosphere. I wouldn't rule it out happening again, we're performing way below our potential.

Is there any barracking today ?
Hopefully not. It doesn't help and just creates an unpleasant atmosphere for other people who would prefer to at least try and enjoy the nice weather.

Exactly a month ago Sussex were at Lords and winning by an innings against (the 2016 County Champions) Middlesex...
