Sussex v warwick 20/20 qf 27th july

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
No proper winners in our team. 10 years of progress being thrown down the toillet. We have one of the best batting line-ups for years, but not one of them is a winner. It's just embarrassing. We need a strong new character from somewhere, and clearly we need a new captain. Absolutely pathetic.

Getting slightly carried away, Pinkie.

We reached the final of the FPT, we are reigning champions and unbeaten in the PRO40, quarter-finalists in Twenty20 and it is early days in the LVCC!

We were unbeaten for about 14 games prior to the last two debacles.... we just need people with the ability to stick around and work the strike. ah, and we need wicket taking strike bowlers too.

Ok, so I am a bit overly angry. But, the Pro 40 is the weakest competition and is being ditched. We're way off in the Championship. We didn't turn up when it mattered in the FPT Final. It's not as if we even put up a good fight. And this batting performance is not good enough, in fact, it's utterly shambolic. It's one of the strongest line-ups we've had and they are just not delivering when it matters. I don't mind losing. Following Brighton means I know all about losing. But it's the lack of effort that really gets me and the complete waste of talent. On paper this is a damn good Sussex team. But they are not performing and the small-time mentality is creeping back in. Adams and co. would not be happy with this. We built a winning club with a lot of hard work, and I don't want to see us throw it all away. Let's hope our bowlers can do a better job.

152 is better than it looked a couple of overs from the end. Something to bowl at anyway. C'mon Sussex!!:clap2:

Kirtley: a great example of why you should retire on a high. Plus, he's got his clothing company to attend to.

You have put forward a good case and I am minded to agree with you, I was trying to put a positive spin on things. There is always going to be the danger of us returning to our pre-Adams era and just making up the numbers. Mushy has left a massive hole and for too long we have been reliant on one or two batsmen to come up with the goods (mainly Goodwin).

When was the last time we produced a decent pace bowler? Kirtley, Lewry and RMJ are in their dotage and we can't compete financially with other counties.

What is alarming (getting sidetracked) is that (unless things have changed recently) there are no natural cricket pitches available to the Brighton & Hove state schools. Artificial is there, but not grass.

I didn't think our inital success would last, but we have pulled off a few surprises over the last four years or so. But it is getting much harder now. We shall see. The redevelopment of The County Ground can't come soon enough - we are losing money by the thousands. As much as I dislike Twenty20, that is the money spinner and we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Although we have improved a bit over the years.

Don't get me started on sports pitches! I'll start ranting about incompetent councils, greedy developers, the lack of facilities for our youth, hypocritical governments, the future of British sporting success, not enough jobs for groundsmen etc etc etc.
