Sussex dent Surrey hopes
Frizzell County Championship Division One
Sussex have had a fabulous start against Surrey in the critical top-of-the-table clash at Hove.
After the home team won an important toss, Sussex's openers took their team to the interval on 148-0.
Murray Goodwin was on 47 while Richard Montgomerie had reached 67 after Sussex began the day just five points behind the Champions and hot favourites.
Both teams had included two specialist spinners on a track which currently looks ideal for batting but which could turn later.
Kent had a terrible morning against Essex at Canterbury.
The home team's innings was being held together by the prolific Ed Smith on 75 not out off just 89 balls.
But the overall score was 128-6 after Tony Palladino took three wickets in 10 overs for the injury-ravaged visitors.
At Grace Road, Leicestershire also had an uncertain start with the bat against Lancashire to be 103-4.
John Wood had two of the wickets to fall with Darren Stevens (36 not out) forced to pick up the pieces for the home side.
Russell Warren and Kevin Pietersen were handed the task of repairing Nottinghamshire's innings at Trent Bridge after Middlesex reduced them to 67-3.
The pair took the home side onto 98 before Warren was bowled by Ashley Noffke for 39, one of two wickets for the Aussie seamer.
