With attention on England in the CT, it had entirely escaped my attention that Sussex are currently playing day 1, of a 4-dayer v South Africa A at Arundel.

A very young Sussex side (Briggs and Beer the most experienced?) currently 182/4, with Rawlins 42*

Predictably inexperienced Sussex line-up.

Glad that they are making a fist of it as plan to sample the Arundel sausage rolls on Friday.

What's happened to Tom Haines? He made his debut for the Firsts last year and you'd think he'd be in line for this game

Will Rawlins get any first team game time ths year?

No idea. Depends on the form / fitness of those ahead of him, I guess.

Just passed 50 though

It is a very young Sussex team this, but similarly I've only heard of TWO of the SA team (Temba Bavuma and Dane Piedt)

Doing his A Levels otherwise, yes, he would have been first name on teamsheet.

Who is Jonty Jenner?
Youngster from Jersey (c.20 now?). Dynamic batter / brilliant fielder in the modern stylee. Had a tough 2016 season but seems to be doing better this year.

150* partnership for the two youngsters.

Sussex 246/4

Rawlins 75*, Jenner 60*

:clap2:

289/6

Jenner went for 68, and Rawlins agonizing for 96, just short of a maiden first class ton.

Hard luck young man.

He got a ton in the winter in a U-19 test - was that not a first-class game?

EDIT: Just checked and U-19 games - even tests - are not first class

I'm sure he'll get one before long, I reckon he's a bit of a talent

The most curious thing..
If we had picked the full side, would not it have effectively been South Africa B v South Africa C?

To bounce this, Sussex kids were 325/7 at the close.

Danny Briggs had a bit of fun in the late sunshine - unbroken partnership for the 8th wicket stands at 35, of which Sakande has yet to contribute a run!

I was once in a century partnership where I contributed 12 runs. I also set a club record in the middle of it by facing 55 balls without scoring.

Sakande is an amateur at this

This Jake Hutson must be an unbelievable wicketkeeper given he's 10/11 in the batting order.
