I'm stunned but happy ! Yards must rate as one of the very best English one day batsmen, thats another game he has turned round and won almost single handed !

66 from 30 is some going !

A good innings today no doubt but he hasn't even scored a 1 day century so I can't see how he could be amongst the best English 1 day batsmen. Arguably he's been of more value to Sussex and England with the ball in recent years

Its not so much the volume of runs its the speed and number of deliveries.... Yardy took 66 off 30 balls, a player could get bogged down and score 15 from 30 and you would still think thats fairly reasonable. it's " Impact" innings such as today's that turned the game.

You sure? At the moment it looks like Gloucs could get more points as second place finishers.
In Group B, Gloucestershire have 12 points with four more games to play. They will get 20 points if they win them all.

The best we can achieve is 18 points. Our net run rate is much better than Gloucestershire's though.

In Group C, Nottinghamshire (currently 13 points from 9 games) can't be written off, either.

That ridiculous defeat against the Unicorns at Arundel is to blame. Sussex 325/4 (40 ov); Unicorns 327/4 (39.3 ov).

There is no way Yardy woud make a list of the top 10 English one day batsmen - I just found the suggestion that he was amongst the best ridiculous.

Also your point about strike rate is a valid one and I think if you look into it Yardy has comparitively poor strike rates in both 1 day and 20/20 cricket. You can't get away from the fact he averages less than 25 in 1 day cricket which is mediocre to say the least.

A fine performance today though no doubt.
