That may be the worst LBW decision I have ever seen. This is the best still I could capture.

Considering he left it and it was coming back in, it's not horrendously bad, even if I'm not sure it was doing enough. I remember Strauss being given out in an ODI once when he'd literally middled it onto his pad.

This is a glorious hole to disappear into on YouTube, but this one's quite fun (not least as it's an Australian on the receiving end):

Yeah, not seen it, but if he's left it then he could be asking for trouble.

Aside, it does look like a decent batting track.

Not seen it. Certainly offering a shot outside off stump, although I guess it depends on which part of the pad it hits. Part of him is still in line.

Umpire guessing :nono:

Might be the quality of the Youtube stream but it seems to hit the top of his back leg which might just be in line with off stump of another set that were a lot taller. The batsman incredulity was a good tell. Did well to bite his tongue.

The quality of the video isn't great, I'd say it probably is missing but it's not a howler of a decision.

Terrible quality video available here:

There's no way he should be leaving that ball anyway, so I won't be basing my view of the decision on the batman's judgment. Rightly or wrong the benefit of the doubt tends to go the bowler's way once the batsman tries to leave.

It's certainly close, full and coming back in. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the decision it's a bad leave.

My understanding is that he would have to play as an overseas player, in the same way as (definitely Irish) Tim Murtagh had to retire from internationals to keep his Middlesex contract.

I'm not sure that's related to the EU situation though, even under the Kolpak rules players couldn't turn out for their country and a county at the same time.

Yes, he'd be an overseas player if he opted for Ireland. But, as I pointed out few weeks ago, you wouldn't expect a player called Carson to opt for Ireland over England.

It is related to the EU situation however, Pre-Brexit, it was possible for a player to play for his county and for an EU country - Ed Joyce turned out for Sussex (Bakker for Hants, Mortensen for Derby etc)

I've been on a Zoom call since 11 and just turned on ... what a shit show

He could have a burning desire to represent Bangladesh for all I know about him. They could probably do with a good off spinner to balance out the enormous pile of left arm orthodox bowlers they have, for that matter. Plenty of Irish/catholic people have the surname Carson.

Re. the EU situation, I stand corrected

55-6

The visitors are going to need a very big first innings if I'm going to see much with my tickets for Saturday...

Cracking race going on between Sussex and Yorkshire as to who gets bowled out first (57/7 plays 35/6 right now).

No real prospect of this particular tail wagging either.

Testing times down at Eaton Road. Much patience needed on all fronts.
