Had hoped it would survive for a few more years until my retirement so I could spend days at Hove watching my favourite form of the game but looks like it won't be the case...

There is no evidence to support this claim. If the ECB didnt value 4 day cricket they would certainly have not bothered setting up the Bob Willis Trophy never mind underwritten the cost of it.

Would you call the ground development visionary?

I would have thought it was an obvious need.

With Gillespie, he has a good record and time will tell, the fact that some players are on the fringes of the international team speaks volumes.

To be honest although I go and enjoy it, I don’t know loads about cricket and never played it much - so difficult to comment on players.

Promotion from league two , I should think .
We have blown it several times over the past few seasons . Given the quality of our squad that’s been hard to understand.
I think you are right , suggesting priorities are elsewhere. Whilst that may be the right call for the overall health of the club, for some supporters, long form is the big one.
And in long form too many players have underperformed in a poor league.
It’s absolutely right to give younger players a chance in d what is left of this season, whatever the results .
In long form , Things May get worse before they get better .

Agree with you that “vision” is an overused word [emoji23] but am happy that the leadership of the club is currently in good hands.

Agree also about JG’s track record and the quality of players we’ve enjoyed at Hove in recent seasons.

Although it saddens me, I can understand that the club wants to invest in the short form of the game rather than four-day cricket. But I'd be more forgiving if we were successful there but our last win in any form of limited overs cricket was 11 years ago.

We're not a rich county and I'm not sure why we have so many one-day specialists on our books. We now have Wright, Evans, Bopara and Mills who only play L/O cricket (plus Finch and Beer who pretty much do). When we won the 2006 C7G final our team was pretty much the same team that played CC cricket (we did the same in our previous finals). I can understand one or two specialists but do we need five or six?

For those who didn’t hear the Gillespie interview on the radio earlier :

On Wells - not selected because ...“I don’t think he got the volume of runs he, or us, hoped he would do over past couple of years”. There is a Way back for him but not at the moment.
On Evans - happy for him to go on loan to Leics. another who has underperformed despite plenty of chances, according to JG. Happy with his short form form.
On Briggs - another casualty of Gillespie’s preference to give youth a chance this season after the team underperformed in long form.
On past couple of seasons (4 day) - } “the reality is we haven’t done as well as we should and we have to look at that”
On meaker : still getting fully up to speed, and may be better placed in a week or so. Crocombe selected ahead of him. JG impressed with meakers attitude.
Bopara - wont play long form this season , this was always the plan. Maybe next season.
Van Zyl - fishing in SA at the moment. Will be back next season, not this .
Overseas players - none coming this year
Carson - young spinner from Ireland who had impressed. Selected over Briggs
Garton - hopeful he will become an all rounder . Needs to play more games and develop. Highly rated .
