Derbyshire's Clare had splendid figures of 12-0-107-0, surely we should be signing him up, imagine what he could do in T20?

It's odd because we're Horsham is usually like a FORTRESS for Sussex.

Yet here we are, and this game could go either way.

Wonderful day at Horsham watching history, where after 171 years of trying, the top four batsmen all score 100's.
Nasher just carried on from yesterday, Ed just kept grinding it out, Ben Brown was superb, coming in after an opening stand of 294 it must have been difficult, but he batted superbly to get his first CC century.
Muzza batted like the man we used to worship, getting his century in only 83 balls, was dropped by slip on about 33, 3rd ball of an over, then hit 4,6,4 to rub it in.

Best moment of the day was Ollie coming in with Muz wanting five for his ton. First ball he pushed to mid wicket and didnt go for a run, Muz was half way down the wicket and was sent back, turned and it was touch and go if he was in as the fielder hit the stumps direct, luckily the umpire was looking the wrong way and only turned around at the noise of the ball hitting the wicket, couldnt give it out cos he didnt see it and the ball diverted to the boundary for a 4, only ball he faced and he nearly ran Muz out.
Great day, but Derby were absolulely crap.

They'll be saying that Poyet is going to Hartlepool next.

Minor Counties ....

shame there is no way in / out like League 2 and Conference

It wasn't all that long ago that Sussex were rock bottom and looked about as potent as Derbyshire. These things come in circles. Derbyshire were a strong team in the 90s when they had Grizzly, Dean Jones, John Morris, Devon Malcolm, Dominic Cork, Phil DeFreitas (for a bit) - I'm sure they'll come again.

Great report Hailsham - although I'd slightly disagree on the best moment of the day - Murray literally punching a bouncer out of the air above his heads to clear the Derbyshire boundary fielders was probably the most extraordinary shot I've every seen in FC Cricket.

For the sentimental amongst us, there was also a smashing little moment when he hit another 6 into the tennis courts - and Murray's little son (5 or 6years old) went to get it and threw it back with a huge shout to his dad. Top drawer!

I wanted to make the same point! Derbyshire have produced and lost a fair amount of players over the years basically because of the £££, (wasn't the Grizzly move one of cricket's first 'big money' signings?) - We have not had the benefit of the financial backing that Sussex and many other teams have had and have the lowest membership in the country so it's tough to compete. We have a decent first XI but little depth to the squad - In this game we are missing Rogers, Wagg, Groenewald, Lungley and more... While we are some way behind Sussex's admirable production line of players, the green shoots are there. Borrington, Redfern, Hughes and more have alot of talent, difficult to show it when the 'senior' players are not doing it though.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season but selfishly, I hope you don't go up! Cheers

Indeed. For most of the 80's and 90's a good season for Sussex was not finishing in the bottom third of the table.
