He joined Arsenal when he was 6, after an Arsenal scout saw him doing a one-on-one session with Ian Gilmour (father of another Brighton-born lad, Charlie, who also joined Arsenal at 6 and is now at St Johnstone via a spell at Norwich City).

Sounds like Ian invited the Arsenal scout to take a look at him, he was probably already committed before we even had a chance to spot him.
