Bonjour

Have a week off next week and me and the brother are going to have a round or two. Any suggestions for good, not overly expensive courses? We are pretty average(can hit a fairly decent ball) but nothing special.I played at the Benfield 9 hole course the other week and i hit 44 if that helps anyone gauge my standard. Can anyone tell me what Waterhall is like as we may go up there?

thanks

East Brighton, quite an easy cause with a very easy back 9. Lewes, quite difficult and hilly but with really easy par 3's. Ditchling, very flat and easy go to ditchling!

Waterhall is a nice course. Very undulating. But fairly challenging, especially the run of par 5's at the bottom. You do get a feeling you are right out in the sticks around the 10th through 12th holes as well.

Hollingbury is good as well they have recently changed the layout. You go down the old 16th as the 1st now and the old par 3 first is the 4th. Then you carry on as before. The one good think about Hollers is the magnificent views of 'The Amex'

Look at Hassocks, Pyecombe and Mid Sussex websites as well.

In a pile of football shirts
Wesy Chiltington is a challenge, but very enjoyable, especially the front nine, the greens are spot on. Slinfold is very good too.

nowhere near Burgess Hill
Around Mid Sussex, would agree with poster earlier that Rookwood is a really good, well maintained course that's very playable. For a tough test Tilgate is very difficult, but is a beautiful course set in the forest. Other than that Mid Sussex (Just outside Ditchling) is great. Played Hollingbury last week and thought it was nigh on impossible to keep the ball on the fairways on some holes as it was so dry everything runs off the sloping banks into the rough

Rustington is quite nice for an average player, and not too expensive. Quite short, flat course, but fun. It's only a 9 hole course, so for a full round you go around twice (from slightly different tees). They have an excellent driving range and shop too.

I also have next week off, and I shall be playing. Probably have a round or two, and heading the this pm for a hit on the range.

I know Horam is nice but I've heard they let all sorts of types in there as members...

I played at Hassocks last weekend, nice course, not too hard, a couple of water hazards. Some wide fairways, and nicely watered greens. Cost £21

I played there last week and shall be doing so this Sun. It is quite challenging, especially the 11th, but fun to play. Usually no problem getting a tee-time, even at weekends.

Waterhall - too hilly but cheap
Hollingbury - dull but cheap
Hillbarn - great begginers cause and some challenging holes too and cheap and this is what id go for.
Rookwood - great course but quite a drive.
Mannings Heath - one of my faves and cheap for twilight.

Royal Ashdown Forest - West Course (not the old course). Get a 2 for 1 voucher and you'll both go around for £15 a pop. Honestly the best value golf you'll get anywhere.

I always preferred playing Waterhall to Hollingbury, although Waterhall is nothing special (good for the price though) i find Hollingbury very dull. As others have said Hassocks is a far nice course than either of those, and i think they had twighlight rounds for £12 when i went past the other day which is a bargain.
I also heard Singing Hills have some deals on twighlight rounds, that imo is the best course you will find, and is well worth a bit of extra cash to try it out. Saturday after 3pm or Sunday after 2pm is £12, or £16 after 5pm on a weekday which is well worth it.
Stay well clear of Burgess Hill (par 3 course) always seems terribly overpriced to me.

Nearly forgot...good shout.

Singing hills is fantastic value for twilight, a real gem of a course and for £12 at weekend twilight, its great. Challenging but you wont get a better course in sussex for the money.
