Crappy season! Three wins on the trot to start the championship season and then very swiftly downhill from there. And to think they were mooted as possible champions by at least one newspaper before the season began. What happened?

To me the batting has been weak for a few years now, too often there is a big collapse. The batsmen we do have are very hit and miss, no consistency. The obvious injuries to the bowlers this year hasn't helped at all either, but for me it is the inability to address the weak batting that has been the huge concern.

We won the first two games last season and then collapsed. I always thought we would be at risk this season. We must be favourites to go down given difficult fixtures v Yorkshire...

Strengthen the bowling attack with players who have spent most of the campaign injured. Doing NOTHING to address the batting which has been piss poor at best for a number of years now was always, always going to end in tears

Basically, shit recruitment

The future does not look bright at the moment. The batting has been weak for several years and the bowling attack puts too much responsibility on young, inexperienced players when frontline bowlers are sidelined by injury. There is no adequate spinner. The increase in counties getting revenue from test cricket means that Sussex could face several seasons in Div 2 with the likes of Gloucestershire, Northants, Leicestershire etc.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit

Need to improve academy. Get up to Yorkshire to find out what they are doing. Yorkshire's team is virtually all home grown team (a couple of overseas specialists for the T20) , opening bowler is a 17 year old and other 19 and 20 year olds. Not to mention half of the team on England duty.

As things stand we deserve to go down. What the hell was Yardy thinking playing on for another season? What were the coaches thinking with Cachopa? What's happened to Nash? I have visions of Robinson's training sessions - working the bowlers to death while the batsmen play cards in the pavilion.

Regarding the bowlers this year, the injuries have been a factor. Anyon had not suffered too much in the past, Hatchett is made of glass.

Shazad is unfortunate, but you do have to question what quality of medical was done on Mills. All career he has suffered with back issues, yet he signs for us, breaks down and then they discover he has spinal issues. That should surely have been picked up on?

No spin bowlers of note in the squad (on the basis that Robinson was never going to play Beer), was short sighted, hence the lethal early wickets. I suspect they wanted to bring Harmer in once Maggofin was English, but that paperwork has been held up, so loan signings that have not worked out.

The batting has been an issue for a few seasons, but generally one player has managed to paper over the issue, but having a cracking season. This has not happened this season. We still do not have a batting coach on the staff and players technical flaws are there to see. Too often we get out, chasing balls wide of off stump or playing in one day mode, rather than assessing conditions. Our batsmen go after the ball too hard and other counties know this and exploit it.

Robinson can coach bowlers, but he cannot coach batsmen.

I was interested in Priors comments on Sky during the Middlesex 50 Over game. In the past the work ethic at Sussex was a key to our success, he commented that now, too many players think they can turn up, do a 2 hour net and go home again. That culture has to change, but I cannot see it happening with Robinson there, he is in a rut and does not know what to do, hence just works with the bowlers.

Bayliss made a comment the other day that coaches should move on every 4 years or they become stale (look at Flower and Fletcher for England), so Robinson's time has to be up.

Suspect it is too late to approach Moores, Notts seem to have that one sorted.

I know of several Sussex members who are happy to see them relegated, just as long as it means Robinson going, and Ed Joyce losing the captaincy,
