I think you could add Yasir to that. Only four players have higher batting averages and he took a fair chunk of wickets - if he'd played a full season, he'd probably have done more 60.

I have to say until the last game and a half he has been fairly poor. He is not a strike bowler in the mold of Rana.

Would be surprised if he is there next year.

The most curious thing..
Would have been Martin Jenkins if he could have kept his form all season, and hadn't left half way through. But he didn't.

More wickets than Martin-Jenkins and Anyon in fewer games. And at 24.4, a better bowling average than all players apart from M-J and Collymore. And a batting average above 40 too. I'd scarcely call that poor.

I think he'll be there next year. What options are there? Any top class player is going to be lost to the IPL and World championship (or whatever it's called). If they go for a batsman, you're going to have a weak bowling attack and if a bowler, a very long tail. Unless they can pull a decent all-rounder out of the hat, I reckon they'll stick with Yasir.

Until recent games he has not looked the player that we had in 2006.

I do think there will be other options available, Amir is going to have some time on his hands...

But if you look, I think his 5 for against Northants is his first of the season, which is not good enough for an opening bowler. Rana took a number of wickets an innings, where as Yassir takes a couple.

Also if they get Khan down to Hove, there is Hachett and Thorp coming through, it gives us more options with the fast bowlers than we have had for years.

Voted for Corey but it was a close call between him and Nash for me, all boiled down to Coreys ability to keep running up the hill at Hove....dont know how he does it!

Amir's a good call - if he's not banned from ALL cricket

Yasir is picked for his batting as well though. If we had, say, Amjad and Amir joining us, we could have Rayner at 7 - that's a long, long tail.

Of course, if Wright stopped playing for England that problem would go away

Bit harsh that. You could see the difference in one-day performance when Yardy came back and Prior got some really useful runs too.

None of them did well in the CC though - something which should concern Wright if he has dreams of a test place. I think he's fallen too far behind myself - and could well lose his one-day place too.

I was semi-jesting. They did very well in the limited overs stuff, I was more trying to say we've (almost) won this division without our big-name players doing a lot.

Tucker for me. I think we would not have been assured promotion if he hadn't rescued us time and time again during the first half of the season.

Have to agree with that. Time and time again he seemed to turn matches around for us in the first half of the season. Shame he didn't play right until the end, but he can be happy in knowing that he was in the absolute peak of his form when he retired. We as a team dipped when he left, but we have started to pick up again now.

Anyon at 8 is not an issue, as he can hold a bit. Monty is less of a rabbit than people suggest, although Colymore makes Robinson look like an opener.

When Panesar first broke through people were saying he was a promising batsmen and could bat at 9 for England, and i'm sure i remember wellying Murali around for a bit in a test.
