Your continuing support and defence of him are commendable, BL. Unfortunately many of us find his commentary style and lack of knowledge quite hard to stomach - he is presumably getting paid to do what seems a rather nice job. But I guess the answer is in the mute button.

There was an incident today where he didn't know that the batsman had been bowled. But it wasn't down to his incompetence.

1. Ball goes through to keeper who raises his hands
2. Batsman stands his ground
3. Confusion as players come running in
4. Finally noted that a bail has come off.

First impression was he may have been caught behind.

I was in exactly the same boat as the feed is grainy and if I was where Adrian was I would have been just as clueless. He has the same view as someone in the crowd at best. It's not like Sky where they have micro technology sitting in front of them and a view as clear as you and I can see the screen now.

That's why I give him so much slack. But it's not just that. For older listeners (I suppose I'm getting there) he is such a friendly voice. His gaffs are part of the package. There probably would be better. He's not Johners and CMJ, but he'll do.

And everyone gets it free (unless you have a membership like me but never go anyway)

Fair enough! I agree with a lot of what you say. And he does give us some food for discussion.

That’s a generous view considering he’s in the highly coveted position of getting paid to watch cricket.
So many mistakes every game. Hell, every over.
Disappointing today but maybe not a bad thing in the greater scheme of things. You learn from your defeats.
We were 20 short and our back up bowlers were taken to the cleaners.

I didn’t think there could be anyone more error strewn (to be polite than dear old John Lees but ‘Harmsie’ runs him close

Enjoyed the game. Thought we left some runs out there and so it proved. I'd rather applaud a great knock by Pepper 🌶 than call out any of our bowlers. Still been a great season so far.

I thought we were 20 runs short considering our wickets lost at the 2/3 point of our innings. Bowling wasn’t quite as focused either. Maybe the players relaxed after knowing they were through to the QF

Sky have their cabin pitchside, but even then they would rely on the screens for a lot of it. I can watch the TV screen and immediately say 'that's out' when the ball strikes the pad and be right most times. I couldn't do that from 45 degrees on the boundary edge. They are watching the screens.

I think for some county matches Sky do now just commentate from a studio in London rather than even going to the game.

I do think the commentary on the streams could be improved though, in terms of the style if not accuracy. The viewing figures really aren't that impressive and it has crossed my mind on more than one occasion that while it might be a nice gentle thing to watch if you're already into it, I can't imagine them having much appeal to the non or newly converted.

Agree with all of that. I think the Championship figures are probably low because it's often during the working day. But, yeah, better quality in the coverage would help. I'd be happy to pay for an HD stream. But it's better than nowt.

As regards the Humbug. I know you feel the same as me there. August is coming. Only 6 weeks till the next Championship match at Scarborough (I'm hoping that the stars will align for me to be there). Probably the most famous festival.

To be fair to a lot of the commentators on the county circuit, they are very very good.
You wouldn‘t know if they’re a distance from the action, and they’re not looking for excuses.
Adrian Harms most certainly makes the most mistakes, making for a frustrating listen sometimes.
In his corner , he does have a strong personal touch and he can often find the perfect words to capture the really big moments.
He is a likeable chap and I agree with you that counts for a lot when you have the cricket on in the background.

Gave up membership because county games poorer quality and mostly played in April May and September. However have watched a lot on live stream which many times has stopped me attending. Very good service and of course only shows wicket to wicket but really find it hard to understand how they offer this as a free service. It must stop people attending and am sure the many that watch would pay for this which is available for every non telivised Sussex game

There must be some revenue generated from the prominent (Dafabet?) advertising. I like the live stream coverage, replays and commentary, esp as you can catch up on anything you’ve missed. Must be a Godsend to those cricket supporters living abroad
