Does anyone here play Cricket Captain on their phone/laptop? Excellent for long train journeys. Currently leading Sussex to D1 glory and Alsop is the best batsman in world cricket
I haven't but will give it a try - I assume that it isn't one of those free games where you can't do much unless you pay for the in-app extras?

On iPhone at least, you can play the full version for free for 5 matches, after which you need to buy the full version (basically paying to unlock - you can continue your career save) which then becomes ad-free and no other micro transactions or pay to win elements. I think the 2022 version is around £3.99 if you decide you like it after the free trial, with the newer ones costing a little more.

2024 is the first true update in frankly a decade or more (year on year it has just been squad updates, plus tiny tweaks - no new commentary or animations etc) but 2024 has new graphics, new interface, new commentary and not the same Aggers clips they’ve been using since the late 90’s(!!!).

Give it a go for free, then buy if you enjoy. :)

I've played the older versions occasionally on my laptop (slightly terrifyingly I've just realised by "older" I must mean over ten years because I was at uni when I first tried it). My main recollection of this is declaring a second innings with about a session left and well over a hundred runs ahead and losing comfortably.

Because I'm really suggestible I've just downloaded the latest version onto my phone.

30/2 off 8 overs. Behind the run rate at the moment and talk of dark clouds bt the scoreboard not showing DL at the moment.

Seems a strange ground - some views look quite nice, then you see the main road and the electricity pylons. As with many out grounds, the outfield seems a little bumpy.

I'm too old to play silly, immature games like that.

Does anyone have a link for it BTW ?

Just looked on maps and seen this is only about 10 miles from where my parents live. If I'd know that, I might have used a visit to see them as an excuse to squeeze in a days cricket.

I first played it on PC in the 90's/early 00's, can't remember the exact year, in many ways the game hasn't developed much since then- I've not played the most recent one but an upgrade sounds good! Generally though it's very good for a mobile game

my only gripe is that it could do with a Football Manager type attributes package. It can be quite hard to identify talent and you're very reliant on averages which makes it a bit tough to spot pure cricketing wonderkids

I got as far as hovering a finger over 'Get' in the App Store, before remembering I have a list of at least 3,862 things I need to do before I commit any time to something like that...

Must.

Not.

Cave.

Looking at Notts making easy work of chasing our score maybe glad you didn't.
