To be fair, Steve Smith was an expert in getting his teams to be able to reverse the ball in all conditions for a few years and was only ever once involved in ball tampering (definitely only ever once, definitely) so maybe he knows a trick or two?
It just seems odd that players and coaches leave with increasing regularity and our performances continue to decline....yet Andrew remains. All our decent player's depart and the money we could have paid them to stay gets spaffed on big name short term player's. We won't be financially stable if we turn in to Derbyshire.Conscious to know why you are laying the blame at Rob Andrew’s door? The club is now in a financially stable position, the only county not to operate at a loss all at a time when huge investment going into the on-site development. We’ve still attracted some top level players and arguably have some of the most exciting young talent coming through alongside a horrible injury list and players representing England.
I don’t get the Andrew haters, same as I don’t get the Greenfield haters who actually put his faith and belief into the younger crop that are coming through and no doubt will only improve and develop this season.
A lot changes in 20 years, I’m sure you understand that.As a Sussex fan I’d say …
Check what the club were doing 20 years ago and what they was offering members.
Compared to now. I’m not referring to winning trophies, by the way.
£1000 lifetime memberships? Ha! Gone.
I’m often out the County Ground post-tea not because I’m tight, but because of work when it’s free. Lucky if there is 500 folk there most days. If that.
Correct me if I’m wrong but can’t Hampshire, Essex, Surrey & Kent members come to the County Ground for free? We have to pay £10 to get into their grounds?
That suggests to me they pay us some form of fee but we don’t pay them. I may be wrong.
The club no longer run trips to four day away games either as they once did… again correct me if I’m wrong.
Credit to Andrew though, once he’s finally f***ed off.. I’ll remember him best for upping the T20 Blast pass from £99 for 7 games to £30 per game (over a 100% increase). Oh and that email begging supporters to donate their £99 to the club as COVID hit.
I’ll assume you will prove a lot of the above wrong given you must be IN with the club given your showing off of the Pakistani signing.
Either way I’ll be following this Cricket club until my death bed a lot longer than Andrew will be around.
CJ and Salt were offered new improved contracts, we were never going to be able to compete with clubs financially boosted by The Hundred (Surrey and Lancashire)It just seems odd that players and coaches leave with increasing regularity and our performances continue to decline....yet Andrew remains. We’ll agree to disagree re Andrew. We both clearly love this cricket club, but opinions differ. Don’t want to hijack this thread.A lot changes in 20 years, I’m sure you understand that.
Attendances of 500 post tea is not uncommon at most Division 2 games I’m afraid to say.
I don’t think other clubs supporters have been able to come into Hove for free for a number of years now.
I would argue that The Hundred rather than Rob Andrew massively impacted our revenue streams and The Blast attendances and popularity suffered.
I’m not making excuses for him and I can’t defend him on everything but the club was massively hit by a number of events in his time here. The Hundred, Covid, losing key revenue due to weather and despite this we were the only county not to run at a significant loss, whilst in the background the re development ongoing despite all of this and we will now finally hopefully see the club beat the fruits of that investment.
I’m certainly not IN with the club as you suggest, in fact I’m sure we both share the same passion for our county’s cricket club, I just think some of the negativity aimed at Andrew and Greenfield is a little harsh and unjustified.
Both had to steady the ship, make some thought decisions at a time when the clubs future was (I believe) almost on the line and on a downward spiral financially.
Dare I say good financial management and by cutting our cloth accordingly. Is our financial stability down to the development of the apartments or purely from cricketing matters?
Or dare I say selling the family jewels??Dare I say good financial management and by cutting our cloth accordingly.
Not much to tempt me to spend my time or money there this summer. Still, at least we are financially stable for a year or two.Or dare I say selling the family jewels??
I wouldn’t leave it too long….!Not much to tempt me to spend my time or money there this summer. Still, at least we are financially stable for a year or two.
That’s a real shame Arundel is a lovely ground and it was always a bit of a treat to go there once a year
I dont know about Jordon but Salt left to play Div 1 and because Sussex were going nowhere. He would have been in demand for the Hundred if he was playing for SCJ and Salt were offered new improved contracts, we were never going to be able to compete with clubs financially boosted by The Hundred (Surrey and Lancashire)
Gillespie chose to leave due to opportunities closer to home and Salisbury’s departure was for reasons outside of cricket.
We don’t have the revenue streams currently to compete with other counties, the re development certainly strengthens our position I would imagine with further improvement works to the ground imminent.
I dont know about Jordon but Salt left to play Div 1 and because Sussex were going nowhere. He would have been in demand for the Hundred if he was playing for Sussex or Lancashire.. Fact is most players that left have improved while Sussex have remained in the bottom 2. Wells was kicked out and has a role in all forms at Lancashire. I can only assume that decision was to get a youngster in cheaper. Good for those that are optimistic but they have been talking a good game for a few years and in that time have hardly won a 4 day game. I love 4 day cricket but gave up membership because through no fault of Sussex most games are played in April and September.
Plenty of counties operated at a surplus in 2021.Conscious to know why you are laying the blame at Rob Andrew’s door? Could never understand why it was associated with The Duke Of Norfolk. Surely The Duke Of Sussex would be better ....oh, hang on ....That’s a real shame Arundel is a lovely ground and it was always a bit of a treat to go there once a year
Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of Pakistan international allrounder, Shadab Khan for the 2023 T20 Vitality Blast.
Khan, who was appointed Vice-Captain for Pakistan’s limited over teams in 2021, will join the Sussex Sharks for the entirety of the Blast campaign.
The right arm leg-spinner/batter has made 84 T20I appearances for Pakistan, taking 98 wickets, with best figures of 4-8.
Shadab made his T20I debut for Pakistan against the West Indies in 2017 and made his mark instantly, winning man of the match in back-to-back games, taking a total of 7 wickets for 21 runs.
In his 38 T20I batting innings, Khan has scored 476 runs at a strike rate of 143.8 and a high score of 52.
Sussex Bowling Coach, James Kirtley, said: “Shadab will provide amazing experience in our middle order, he is someone who has played all around the world and has experienced many situations, which can only benefit our team.
“He really does provide flexibility to our side as he can score runs and take wickets in crucial moments, but more than anything else he is an experienced head that Ravi can go to as captain to look for support when making crucial in-game decisions.
“I know that he will have a massive impact on our team this year.”
Khan has already played 225 domestic T20 matches at the age of 24, accumulating 2088 runs, with a strike rate of 136.91.
Having played for Yorkshire in the Blast last season, Khan is looking forward to following Mushtaq Ahmed and playing for Sussex at The 1st Central County Ground: “I love playing in England. I know Mushtaq Ahmed is a legend at Sussex and it is an honour to follow in his footsteps.
“Sussex has a proud history and I hope that my skillset will help the team achieve great things in the blast this year.”
I especially like this signing because its a clear sign of intent by Mr Farbrace and his coaches to go with our own young talent at the top of the order. We can now expect a top three of Orr, Haines and Alsopp with the brilliant middle order batter Shadab at 4. As opposed to going for a top class overseas opener who would displace one of our young lads. Plenty to look forward to. #sharkloveSussex sign Pakistan’s Shadab Khan for T20 campaign | Sussex Cricket
