What could it be? What could be so controversial that the coach is binned?

Obviously very serious. Gardening leave means he gets paid but has to stay away, sometimes while an investigation is being conducted. They rarely return and if a compromise agreement is agreed we may never know the details.

I pity the new Chairman.

Salisbury gone.

"Not part of the business"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/63051154

The BBC have this but The Argus can only say:

"Salisbury has been away from recent games and is not present at the ongoing fixture at home to Glamorgan.

A Sussex spokesman said: “He is currently away from the business for confidential reasons.”

Chief executive Rob Andrew has been contacted for a comment."

Not sure why The Argus would report less than the BBC (apart from their obvious lack of interest in cricket).

As for the rest of this debate - I'm largely on your side of it. I've always watched, played and umpired the game with the long held principle that 'the benefit of any doubt goes to the batsman'.
.

One caveat to this - pad up with no intention at all of using your bat (like Brad Currie just did) and your deserve all you get.

Sussex 258a/o and asked to follow on.

Terrific effort from Tom Haines to carry his bat (108*), and a maiden 50 for Charlie Tear :clap2:

This young lad Tear looks decent. He's not afraid to go after the runs.

I still think they should have played him and Carter in this match, however. I see little point in playing Ashraf

I dont think Currie's would have hit an adjacent set though... rough decision IMO. Tear is decent. Plays at West Chilts and only 18!

The odd thing about the statement yesterday is, if they want rid couldn't they just sack him based on performances? If not why bring Carson's name into it? It's not going to help him much and just leads to wierd questions

It was the bbc the wheedled out the Carson link. as far as I’m aware the club has still officially said next to nothing about Salisbury’s whereabouts.

Orr and Haines having fun out there.

I'm currently watching this and the England game, on two screens - if it were not one match being played in whites, you'd be completely unable to tell which one is the T20!

237/0

Ali Orr 150* from 123 balls. His highest first class score, and takes him to 1000 runs for the Championship season.

Sussex 276/0

Tom Haines moves to 103* from 136, to bring up his second century of the DAY!

Orr 167* from 142

Also... Sussex now LEAD by 1 run!

I had to go out this afternoon and caught up with the score later- I thought there'd be a misprint at first. What a comeback

Wasn't able to watch any of the stream today. Was this Sussex just going for it or was it 'declaration' bowling by Glamorgan?

Not at all - Glamorgan used only frontline bowlers, and were trying properly throughout. Just fantastic batting.

Boo... Orr run out for 198

Ted and John can rest easy

Alsop failed again: he had a good chance of making a 1000 runs for the season but has scored just 15 runs in his last four innings. What a shame, he's had such a good season.
