One of the patients at work has asked me to post the following request. He cannot stand our anthem, stating it is too dated, we are a new team in a new century, going into a new stadium and therefore should have a new song.

I have said that I will post this for him, but disagree as I feel it is part of history belonging to the county and club alike.

I await your views, and will print the thread, so he can read it on the ward.

Cheers,
Dover.

I note that you refer to a "patient". Are you a psychiatric nurse? The person must be barking! :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

What other piece of music makes the hairs on your neck stand up?

It'll never be outdated because it is a classic - full stop.

All been said above. My kids 10 & 16 wouldn't even want to change it. They have been brought up on it. P.S. Couldn't we have a "Sussex by the Sea" smilie. I.e. one in a deckchair relaxing.:salute:

Everything that has been said above.

Compared with 7-8 years ago, we're now playing in a different ground, in different coloured shirts, with different players, a different board and, with a lot younger supporters who never knew the Goldstone.

After everything we've been through, every little thing that reminds us that that this is still the same mighty Albion, albeit in reduced circumstances is, a mighty good thing. To me, nothing signifies that more than hearing SBTS. And I love hearing it twice a game. In fact, I'm going to have a blast of it on my PC now.

Wish your patient a good recovery Dover. But, IMHO, they're just plain wrong.

I bet this same person would like music played after every goal scored at home matches.. probably some FBS track, have a crappy mascot to run round the athletics track at withdean and have The Albion running out to a remix of the Rocky theme... GOSBTS is Brighton and Hove Albion.. it's traditional and it's unique, I would seriously consider supporting another side if it was scrapped.. that's how passionately I feel about this great Brighton anthem. In other words your 'friend' is talking SMACK!

Too far from the sun
Not only should GOSBTS remain as our anthem for ever, but only the version as played by a brass band. Worthing also run out to GOSBTS but their's is a 'modern' (in the loosest sense) version played on some tinny synthesiser and it sounds crap especially played over a tannoy that makes the withdean one sound fantastic. Instead of der der de der der derrr derrr, it's more plink plink plink-plink plink plink - if you know what I mean.

Thank you allvary muh for your time in posting. The patient concerned was whelmed with the responses so far, and I will print the next batch for him prior to going to work tommrow midday.

To answer a couple of questions. No I love GOSBTS, and belive the best vesion is by The Band Of The Royal Marines.

The person who asked for this to be done does not have access to a computer, and I beleve has been a season ticket holder at the Goldstone. I cannot give any more information, due to patient confidentiality.

However, the look on his face this morning, eating his breakfast, and reading your comments was wonderful.

can you honestly see us running out to the falmer tannoy system blaring out slash dot dash dot slash dot dash dot slash dot dash dot slash dot dash dot slash dot dash dot slash dot dash dot com

NO!!

GOSBTS stays:clap2:

In London village.
As an add on to what has already been said. Anyone coming into Lewes for Bonfire should listen to GOSBTS being played and sung as the bonfire boys and girls march along. It always makes the hair on my neck stand up and I defy any Albion fan not to feel a surge of pride.

Does anyone remember Norman Wisdom singing it at the Goldstone?

I'd quite like to hear a Ramones cover of GOSBTS

Now THAT would be something special...not to mention impossible with three of them now no longer with us...

ALL TOGETHER NOW. . . . .

three words that tell every Brighton fan what to sing at the top of their voice - nothing would ever replace it.

PS: Shame the words have moved away from "and we'll win" though.

No way this is the history of the club, I rememberat the Goldstone the old guy must have been 70+ earning his pocket money by running out and telling the PA bloke to put the record on because the players are on the way out. Why can't we have a brass band at the Withdean for a big game, I am sure it would intimidate the away team and the band would do it for nowt to raise their profile.
