Following my post on Do you want the words to Sussex by the Sea on the big screens before kick off? https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?318531-Do-you-want-the-words-to-Sussex-by-the-Sea-on-the-big-screens-before-kick-off, which came back as an overwhelming "Yes". I have yet to hear back from the club, but it is fairly clear people are in favour of different version of the words to appear on the big screens, if the club are to take up the idea. Also, some think the chorus needs to appear in the music again. So I thought we'd have another poll, and again this will run for 7 days, and I will email the results to Paul Barber.

Sussex by the Sea: Which version of the words do you want to see on the big screens?

A: Now is the time for marching,
Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

For we're the men from Sussex, Sussex by the Sea.
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men are we;
And when you go to Sussex, whoever you may be,
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the Sea!

Oh Sussex, Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
You may tell them all we stand or fall,
For Sussex by the Sea.

B: Now is the time for marching,
Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

Oh Sussex, Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
You may tell them all we stand or fall,
For Sussex by the Sea.

C: Now is the time for marching,
Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

And useful men are we;
And when you go to Sussex, whoever you may be,
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the Sea!

Oh Sussex, Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
Oh we're going up, And we'll win the cup,
For Sussex by the Sea.

D: Now is the time for marching,
Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

Oh Sussex, Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
Oh we're going up, And we'll win the cup,
For Sussex by the Sea.

B all day long.

A and C would feel like im at church and too many words, people will just drown it out.

D doesnt fit as well for me.

By the way, great work on putting in the effort on this, nice to see someone being proactive and not just moaning.

Botheration, my mouse slipped when I clicked, and went on C instead of B. Can a moderator alter it please?

I know I'm going to get slated, but I'd prefer lyrics that are relevant to this Century rather than to 1907 when kids weren't sent to school but got sent to glass making factories and women didn't have the vote!

The old lyrics are completely irrelevant to most fans (including female fans) and players and it would be great to modernise the lyrics to something that's relevant to Sussex today.

None of those as we are at football I would suggest the Norman Wisdom version.

We're the team from Brighton
Brighton by the sea
11 players and a crowd
that 'll roar them to victory
so shout you fans lets hear you roar
Goal(clap hands)
for were going up and will will win the cup
Its Brighton now for sure.

We're the team from Brighton
Hove by jove thats us
we are always fair
and never swear
but now its s..t or bust
so shout you fans lets hear you roar
Goal
Clap your hands untill the're soar
for we're going up to win the cup
its Brighton now for sure.

I think they are the correct words but if not I am sure somebody will correct me.

They could also show the video of him performing it at The Goldstone.

Kids didn't go up chimneys after 1875.

I voted "A" as It contains my favourite lines, but am hugely happy with the consensus around "B".

Can BG's version be added as option "E"...?
