Interestingly, Warwickshire have just bowled Somerset out for 406 and Rikki Clarke has taken the last two wickets in consecutive balls. Now if Warwickshire don't bowl again in the match and he takes a wicket with his first ball in the next match then does he have a hat-trick?

No. If he takes a wicket with his first ball in the next innings it would be (Merv Hughes did this in a test match once) but a hat trick can't be extended across matches.

It should be pointed out that there's no official definition of hat trick in the laws of cricket but no statistician would count a hat trick over two matches as being valid. This question came up in the summer when, I think, Steven Finn took two wickets with the last two balls. The TMS scorer was firm that he wasn't on a hat trick

Yes, and it is possible to get a split hat-trick with 2 splits...how? no googling.

If you can include the end of the day, someone could take the 9th wicket in the last over of the day in a team's 1st innings, come back in the morning and take the last wicket in the innings with the next ball, and then come back and take the 1st of the 2nd innings.

See, it's possible to discuss the cricket in a rational way and we don't make wickets tumble :)

You are pretty much there. Merv Hughes has done it at test level, listed in here...

Merv Hughes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First innings he gets the 9th wicket with the 6th ball of over...over complete.....then 10th wicket with the 1st ball of next over.... innings closes. Hat trick is completed with a wicket with his 1st ball of second innings, hat trick complete with 2 splits.
