[Albion] Surely Webster must go RB now?

I sat watching Webster walking forward with the ball on countless occasions in the first half yesterday, apparently clueless what to do because Everton just let him do it and thought maybe that's the end of De Zerbi Ball as we know it. We didn't seem to have a plan B.
And one of those occasions resulted in an Everyon goal.

A complete disaster for gross yesterday, and also his talents are wasted in that position. Criminal to use caciedo at right back.

Webster has played there before for other teams, and I like him , dunk and colwill playing together. Any reason why Roberto doesn't fancy it ?
Webster won't be playing in any position for the rest of this season.

It works with the players who can do it. Adam hasn't got it yet. At all.
He's a fine CB but it's painful to watch

Honestly staggers me that some think Webster should/can play right back, he would literally be our last player we have I would play there, he doesn’t have the mobility or pace to get up and down.

The whole idea of blaming Gross for yesterday I find bizarre, he was exposed but the entire team was, what about Estupinan not tracking back for both the first two goals? Easy to pick the player who is playing out of position and blame him, Gross has handled Murdyk, Rashford etc this season when paired with March.

Yesterday the entire team were guilty of being over confident and that meant the team (not just one player) played at a half arsed pace and didn’t bother covering back like they normally would, how many times did we see Caicedo haring back to cover for a full back yesterday like we normally do? We didn’t, because he couldn’t be arsed and had a poor attitude towards the game, same as the rest of the them.

RDZ got the team selection drastically wrong as well, but that’s besides the point, the players didn’t apply themselves, all of them, not just gross. Gross normally works so well at RB because our full backs step into midfield but yesterday there was zero tracking back.
Well, this started off badly, but got a lot better:
1, Webster has played RB a fair bit under Potter
2, he's mobile
3, apart from Pervis, he's comfortably our quickest defender. Are you seriously saying he's slower than Gross, Dunk or Veltman? (Colwill I'm not quite so sure about to compare Web with.)
4, agree about (not) blaming Gross ...
5, ... and, yes, you're right, we were over-confident and too many players over-committed, and allowed Everton to intercept and/or out-muscle us

That’s what I’ve seen almost every game Webster Dunk or Colwil walking with the ball sometimes even putting their foot on it.
I didn’t think anything was much different to any other game in respect to centre halves in possession, most opposition tend to back off that. With only DCL upfront and 5 in midfield made it doubly difficult for the centre halves like you said no plan b until the 2nd half and March gave us some width on the right and things changed a bit.

Agree. What was missing for Webster (and Dunk) were the options normally availabl.

I don’t see Webster as a full back. He has the wrong physique, isn’t quick or nimble, gives the ball away when not under pressure, is better attacking the ball face on, is 2nd favourite in a 2 horse race and prefers to play central.

Hopefully a top RB is high on our shopping list. Veltman and Lamptey are too injury prone and there’s no one coming through from the U21, with Offiah being moved to CH in recent matches.
Burn played there didn't he?
Colwill is not ready for this level yet, his positioning is poor.

No. Burn played LB. Regardless, he is an exception given his energy, deceptive pace and height. Webster is a central defender only.
Colwill will improve and is quickly learning that lapses in concentration result in goals.

Firstly I hope rumours of Webby’s injury are wide of the mark.

Secondly I’ve not read anything to change my view that he should be playing right back for the rest of the season (if fit).

Yes, it’s not ideal. But defending is a specialist task and in a team that plays as we do, you need a mix of skills, the ability to get up and back and defend properly, must be mixed with the ability to play out and build the attack. To me it comes down to “am I more confident in Pascal’s ability to defend, or Webby’s ability to start attacks from full back?”

I’m going with Webby.

Yes he did exactly my point a full back with his long gangly legs and arms. Colwill has lots to learn yet, I'd prefer he doesn't do it in our remaining games.

I feel like playing Gross at RB hasn't been exposed until last night when you really saw what happens when a CM/AM is played at RB and has considerable defending to do. He couldn't do it and that's not really a criticism, it's a specialised position and he was totally stripped bare.

Fair play to Everton though, they scored early which set the game up perfectly for them and they managed it to absolute perfection. It was just a freak game, caused by an early goal tipping the balance in their favour but you still have to recognise how efficient, dangerous and ruthless they were.
Agreed but having watched the highlights I felt that if we had got it to 3.3 we would have won. Some amazing saves and the woodwork made that impossible.
Everton were very well set up and executed their attacks brilliantly.
