I agree that a slide was foreseeable after Coppell left.

The team is lacking confidence, we badly miss the nous of Blackwell and Rodger to hold things together. Whether we get out of it is another thing; it depends entirely on how the players respond to McGhee and who he brings in.

I don't buy the argument that our core players are "stale". How does that work? We're still 4th, the players have had a taste of Div 1 and should be itching to get back there, that's part of McGhee's job. They're just having a bad run - it happens.

I think when this thread starts sliding down the page, it should be put into the Gold forum and then dragged out again at the end of the season.

For the record I think we will come out of this bad patch and we'll be in the top 5 at the end of the season.

We are lacking confidence, we have a lot of injuries at present but we will be fine.

Too far from the sun
Why all the doom and despondency? OK, we got knocked out of the cup on Saturday but so did 2 of the 3 teams above us. The way some of you swing is unbelievable - we win three games and it's 'Champions League by 2007', we lose three games and it's 'Knight Out'. Fortunes go up and down over a season. Take a look at the table in the new year and if we're in the bottom half THEN start to get worried. Other wise now is the time to get behind the team (including the non-playing members) rather than slag them off.

As far as funds go, Coppell admitted he had money left to spend and McGhee will get some too. Sometimes it's better to wait for someone worth buying rather than panic into getting the first available donkey.

Some people on here seem to expect promotion every year.....!!

The last 3 seasons have been great (2 promotions & a great relegation battle) so its only natureal we will have a mediocre season sonner or later.

Ok if we still are pushing for promotion come end of April, great ! but I see this season as a bit of rebuilding (blooding youth players, a couple of new faces perhaps) but we have lost Brooker & Bobby and not really replaced them.

some people do not like it if you have negative feelings do they??

this is all about opinions.

In my opinion, we are playing without direction or leadership at the moment ( on the field)

I have never said we are a fantastic side and did not get carried away with the early results. I have watched albion for too many years ( 30) to believe that.

Can someone answer my question...who was the last player we actually paid money for ( Knight and Roberts were frees)?

I believe Knight HAS replaced Zamora. We've got the best striker in the division once again and should be thankful.

We've been through another period of upheavel and have been unlucky with injuries. We WILL come through this. We'll be there at the end of the season (or thereabouts!).

I believe Pitcher was the last player we paid a fee for (£50k).

We have been very average for most of this season, things have got worse since Coppout left. McGhee will need time to steady the ship, losign to a club a division below us is annoying, but hey, we were never going to win the Fa Cup so does it really matter? Yes a cup run generates a small amountof revenue, but we could of hoped for fourth round at very best.
Things will get better, give McGhee time and we will steady, I think a top 4 position is a reasonable target considering how crap the division is.
I would like to go up again, but I do not think it is the end of the world if we dont.
Falmer is more important.

the one-thing that the team needs to learn is not to pump
aimless high balls to a 4ft 10" forward when he has a 6ft 5
center-back marking him.jones needs to be dropped and a
proper wideman brought in,1 experienced playmaker in
midfield for chippie/hart ( who are both playing crap ) and some
cover for the strikers.
now just getting the begging bowl out to start the collection !!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure? I thought Knight cost us 100 grand? That was reported on BBC and the club website but I may be talking bollox. I thought though that the fact that us and QPR had both agreed a fee with Chelski meant it had to be hard cash? Abromovich may be stinking rich but he's not stupid.

If I'm wrong I apologise now mind.

But if I'm wrong will someone please name the last player Plymouth, Barnsley and Bournemouth paid a fee for? This divisions piss poor in more sense than one.

We pay for Leon at the end of the season.

How much we pay for him depends on whether we get promotion or not.

If we get promoted it is 100K + bonuses

Not sure what the other sum is

So yes GB you are right we do have to find cash for Knight (L)

my 2 pence worth

apart from the dismal run this time last year this si the worst run for quite a few years if I remember correctly, I'm sure a couple of new faces that McGhee will bring will change it and the confidence will come bouncing back to the lads. I think a good Xmas period will really lift the team.
