The council are not required to keep records on a match by match basis of attendance. We review safety management arrangements on a quarterly basis and at that time attendance figures are noted. The ground is an all seater stadium and as such has a limit to its capacity. The recent match that we reviewed which coincidentally was on the 4th November had an attendance of 16,133.

I never said it was, I'm just pointing out there is sometimes a big difference on the actual and recorded figures.
I'm sure if you sent a nice request to the council, they would tell you the last recorded quarterly attendance.

I don't need to ask its your lot making the claim. There is a slight difference. I mean it was on the 4th November and we were near the bottom of the league. compared to now.

But the Brentford game was on a Friday night and live on Sky, so more might have blown it out.

Yep and i said that i didn't think that there was 24,000 bums on seats. I would go as far to say that maybe about 20.000 (at a complete guess).

I wonder what Palace's actual attendances were in the Championship, as they disclosed tickets sold also. You know the days when they disclosed an attendance of 11000 for Cardiff at home. 8000 or 9000 probably, and that against a side witha decent away support, they gave kids season tickets to adults for evening games and had 2 for 1 deals. Now hey presto, they have 24000 when Spurs or Arsenal roll into town. Plastic Palace.

As someone who was actually there - ie not just an obsessed palace fan watching on TV - I can guarantee that there were well over 20k bums on seats. Most of the home areas were fairly full. The emptiest part of the ground, other than the away end, was the lower tier of the East Stand - the one opposite the cameras - which is the family stand, so no great surprise for an evening KO.

Please don't encourage people to send FOI requests just to support trivial internet arguments about football rivalry.

I know someone who knows the attendances and they have gone as low as 16000 but are normally 2-4000 below what is given. But I still don't understand the fuss. The given number is the number of people that paid to watch the game. And most if not all teams do it.

I don't understand the fuss either. If someone is enough of a fan to buy a ticket, but then for whatever reason cannot make it, then it's really not a big deal.

Talking of Cardiff...Weren't they right down the bottom of the table when it comes to % of home fans that travel to away games? Only teams to have worst away travel percentage were Reading and Brighton

Doubt they had more than 600 in attendance that night.

Ive no doubt our away following isnt up there numbers wise, we probably travel twice as far as most fans though to get to away fixtures.. it makes a hell of a difference

You have been 72/72 2 seasons running, one would argue tht Teams from the south west, Plymouth, Exeter, Britol clubs, and teams from the North East travel much further.
Portsmouth and Southampton have much the same journey as you albeit a bit further and beat you, and none of those clubs are fortunate enough to have a 45-50 minute train to London. Your away support is dire.

We've done this before. As a % our away following is low, but that's a result of our massive home crowds, rather than a poor away following.

So the higher home gate you get, the worse your away percentage looks. Are we better off having less at home to get our away percentage of home fans higher then I wonder?

What a meaningless statistic.

We took our max allocation to Fulham so at our most local game we could not have exceeded about 16% as a proportion. To get a similar proportion Rotherham would only have to take about 1400 to Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield.
