Probably quite exciting once one knows the rules . . . unforunately l don't.

It’s a wonderful sport, very clever strategically, with some amazing athletes of all shape and sizes…..

Indeed it is Once you get an understanding of the complexities become increasingly interesting, as your knowledge grows
I wouldn't recommend a live game to begin with
Perhaps a highlights show like the one after MOTD on a Saturday evening Or if you have Sky the Red Zone show which is like a live highlights show where TV coverage switches between games to the attempts to score as they happen
Or pick a team for a random spurious reason and follow their fortunes
