I have ray ban aviators had them about 10 years . Bought them funny enough in Bloomingdale’s .

Ray-Ban Aviator’s are my favourites. They don’t last me too long …. due to gardening mishaps or dropping them giving scratched glass. I bought the current pair last year from Nordstrom at Staten Island Ferry for $50, a big saving on the usual Sunglass Hut rip off.

I paid £122 for a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer style Mr Burbank sunglasses at Gatwick last week on the way to my holiday destination. I felt mildly MUGGED OFF, but compared with the prices at Sunglasses Hut in town, these to my slightly troubled mind seemed half decent value, being as the duty free discount had them down from £145. And I have to say, they are the absolute cuffing business. The lenses are fantastic, and everyone says I look like Rock Hudson.

My beloved original Ray-Bans from 2019 were THIEVED from the dash of a hire car when I returned it, without realising I'd left them there (f*ck YOU Enterprise, and the light-fingered FILTH you employ), but I am at last happy with my new investment.

So. What are you happy to pay for sunglasses ? And what brand ?

I still have my Rayban wayfayers purchased for £60 duty free on a Virgin Atlantic flight in 1997 but they are now solely used for driving. As they are getting old though I had a new pair of identical raybans for my birthday last year which I think cost about £120/130. I just hope I live long enough to see these pair out!

I think the longest I've ever successfully held on to a pair of sunnies before losing them is about 10 days so, no, I will not be spending North of a ton on a pair.

I also don't subscribe to the idea of "if you pay more, you won't lose them" because I know how life works and sods law is a very real thing.

I usually rock some €1.50 Primark sunglasses like these, which I have in a multitude of colours to match my outfit of the day.

On special occasions I might don my 3€ Roy Bor aviators, often paired with my limited edition Abibos flipflops.

I also thought I got mugged when I bought my Oakley's for around £120 in 2004. They're the only pair of sunglasses that I still own to this day. The fact you can pop the lenses out and replace them with new ones when they get scratched and worn has also saved me some pennies too.

My budget for sunglasses is anywhere between £5 & £10. I tend to leave them somewhere or lose them so my investments offer better value than your rip-off £122

Personally disagree with your theory, how many £10 sunglasses have you got through? Ten? Twenty? If you spent say £100 not only would have better vision and protection you would also look after them more.
I still wear Lacoste shirts today that I’ve had ten years I would rather pay for quality than getting through twenty £10 jobs in the same period.
It’s like buying cheap tools false economy.

A classic. I have three in my collection. Two regular lens but in different sizes, and another in large with polarised lenses.

I own around 20 pairs of sunnies. I have a bunch of Raybans for “everyday use” plus others by Prada, Gucci, D&G which are more for evening wear on holiday and Oakley for snowboarding.

Gucci and D&G are total black out leave me alone whilst the others have varying degrees of protection. The Prada ones are quite light.

If I didn't already know you, I'd actually guess you were a middle class middle aged man with no kids.

Mine are prescription from Specsavers, where it’s two for one. My sunglasses are the more expensive frame of the two with a Roxy design, and polarised.
It makes sense because I have to have glasses for reading, and driving. Both cataracts have already been done in the last three years.

So, a subject I can share.

I have always bought cheap tat and currently employ on rota 3 pairs bought for $10 in Palm Springs about 6 years ago. One dark ice blue tint, one red blaze sunset and one clear silver streak. All used whatever I am doing including in the sea or a pool.




I have locked away a pair of Oakley' s Blue Sky tint if I need to show off such as parading on a day trip to Capri or gawping at the Hubbard Glacier on a boat. Too frightened to use otherwise as very expensive (app £105!!).

Maui Jim and a couple of Persol sunglasses have been nicked by my wife and sons. I’m refuse to be mugged for my Rayban though, which fit the best and are the most comfortable.

I have a fair few pairs.

My go to are a pair of 'steve mcqueen' Persols. I like Oliver peoples shades a lot as well. Was gifted a pair of loro piana aviators with green lens a couple of years ago, very cool.

Have some cheapies in there as well. Was impressed with a couple of pairs of boohoo men shades i bought over the summer. 7 quid each in the sale with UVA and UVB protection.

My doris woud say exactly the same.

I managed to sit on her cheap-shit sunglasses while we were away (they were under her towel on the sunbed - what did she expect ?). Anyway, she inherited my pair of £25 Wayfarer-style jobbies - wooden arms, actually quite nice - and she was pleasantly surprised at the increase in visual quality, compared with the Poundland pair my arse had just disassembled.

But its amazing the difference you notice between the cheapos and the proper stuff. Its like UHD though - women just aren't overly bothered are they.

They say that senses compensate for each other.

It is possible that their skills in listening and remembering stuff compensate for their lack of ability to see stuff in detail? Of course they can see in great detail to holes in any argument i put forward
