Sunderland to make derisory bid for Bridders

2m is obviously just the initial bid, they know they'll have to up it. We can't get to greedy, isn't he out of contract at the end of next season? His values only going to lower unless he signs a new contract with us. As soon as Gus got the Sunderland job I think it was inevitable he'd try to sign him. Imagine we've been expecting it and are actively looking at who we can bring in should he go.

Agreed, but there is a balance here for Tony to decide.

2 million ( or however much they deign to increase their derisory - and frankly insulting - offer ), or the rest of this season and all of next season with Liam staying with us - which means 2 attempts for us to reach the Premier League ourselves ( at which point everything changes ).

Think Bridders will go...hopefully for a reasonable fee...be more worried if it was Ulloa...

Leo has 3.5 years on his contract. It would take a massive bid to get him, and given that Tony talked about the contract being designed to 'protect our investment' then it's unlikely that there is a release clause that Gus can exploit.

There will be better strikers Gus can get for a lot less money.

The three likely to be considered by Premier clubs are Bridcutt Ulloa Kuszczak, dont want to lose any of those but every player has their price.

of those three Bridders is the most expendable but i would still not want him to leave for under 4-4.5 million which is bugger all in todays market ,how about Bridders and Buckley for 6 million....special offer for Gustavo

Supposedly its a done deal with Sunderland, this is someone at the club who i have met and he told me that its done, but he also did state at the same time, that he has been told this before on transfers in and out and they dont happen, he said at the football club you hear so many possibilities and some come off and others dont for one reason or another but defo truth in this deal being very close.
I hope we get a good fee for him but at least we have ince as a ready replacement and younger, spend part of money on getting Ince on a long term deal and then sign a good midfielder that Oscar wants.
Personally i think he will go to sunderland as this comment, his attitude via comments in argus and yes him pulling out of 50-50 challenges in games played recently. Be a shame but not a season changer.

We regularly get mugged up with transfers. If Bridcutt is going, and I agree with many on here that a) his attitude has discernibly shifted recently and b) his departure would be disappointing but not a season changer, then it has to be for something above £3m and early in January so that Oscar can be given the funds for team strengthening.

On reflection, if his heart is no longer here, then we should get shot at the highest price possible, would make it sweeter if it wasn't to Sunderland though.

Time will tell but I don't think Bridcutt will make a big impact in the Premier League, he will often get mullered by the bigger and stronger midfielders as he is small and not that quick. There is a massive step up from Championship football ( where he has been immense) to the Premier League.

Okay that's a thumbs up from me.....I love reverse psychology

That's poor speculation. I also do not think that Oscar would make him Captain if that were the case.

You can never doubt his tenacity or commitment to the team. However, as I've said before, Saturday was proof that he is suited to a certain slower style of play and that's why I fear he may struggle at a higher level.

If he goes though, good luck to the lad...he deserves it.

I think considering we look like we can mount a decent promotion bid largely without Bridders and Ulloa, selling the both of them for say £6 million might be good business for us.

Without them (or replacements) we'd have no chance of promotion. We're losing £8m a year, so getting promoted sooner rather than later is more important than cashing in on players as soon as someone wants them. Teams don't get promoted when selling their best players.

There are another 5 "lower half" clubs also interested in Bridcutt , if he doesn't fancy the move all the way up to the north-east there is always the Midlands , London or East Anglia.

Especially strikers, anyone care to enlighten me as to the last time a team got promoted having sold and lost their best striker during the season that they went up?

I'm not convinced we'd need to replace Bridders. £6 million for a replacement for Ulloa sounds plenty.

The article on the argus website seems to suggest to me the club have resigned themselves to losing him and are now playing the 'negotiate through the press' game, trying to encourage previously linked teams to bid to start a price war.

But what's the point in selling players, just so they can be replaced? If you can get better, great, but we have players that know our game, know the rest of the team, and can perform now. Replacing them is a gamble, and even if the replacements do fit with our style etc, it will take time, and cost us points.
