We always avoid the toll roads and notice the majority that use them are Brits, Belgium and German not French.
You ALWAYS avoid them but know the nationality of those that do? That is a rubbish Super Power.

We did this when we stayed in a gite south west of Rouen. Never again. Took us hours and hours and everywhere was shut (it was a Saturday afternoon and we struggled to find somewhere open for lunch). On the way back to the Channel Tunnel, we used the toll roads, took us half the time. I'd rather pay a little bit more, use less petrol and actually not be knackered when I get to where I'm going.

We use a combination of toll roads and N roads from the Tunnel. We get to our destination around 40 mins later than if we used all the toll roads but save over 30 euros each way.

We're looking at staying south of Paris for a few days in October, then heading down to Bordeaux to see some French friends. That's an 8 1/2 hour drive back to Calais, not avoiding tolls. Not looking forward to that one...

Everybody must see a Sun in the bin or left on a bus or train or at work if they don't wish to buy the paper but want the vouchers, but I buy it because I like their 2 Sudoku puzzles, that I usually do at between 3 and 4 am, when I wake during the night. Also their football gossip and transfer speculation is more accurate than most of the so called higher grade papers.

You can do free Sudoku puzzles on your laptop.

There are times when I have had to use them like when we drove to Portugal for BHA pre season tour under Gus and also if going to Adinkerke for tobacco you see the vehicles taking the toll road turn off.

I have my own Travel Business and I'm following this thread with great interest - January is known as "Peaks" in this business when describing it to the general public, we in the trade affectionately call it "Silly Season" - BG you are taking the latter to new levels, please keep it up!

There are no toll roads between Dieppe and Rouen and the road there is pretty fast. I tend to be at Rouen in less than an hour so I'd love to know what route you took !

I never take the toll roads south of Rouen - far nicer drive through villages than on a motorway.

The Tunnel is at Calais, which is what I think he meant.

This!

As to where we stayed, I can't recall now - it was about 10 years ago and it was literally in the middle of nowhere. It was about an hour's drive to Rouen, plus on that holiday we were able to visit Honfleur and Etretat in about the same time.

Love all the posters on here looking down at people simply because they take advantage of a cheap holiday opportunity.

We’ve used it for several years to have a 5 day break with our dogs as they don’t accompany us on our summer holidays.

It’s in Cornwall, the accommodation is a ground floor, two bedroom, well appointed apartment with few neighbours. Views from front and back are stunning, 200 acres to walk the spaniels and a fantastic 200 year old estate lake to fish.

About £80 for us and the dogs.

It's because many on NSC are total and utter snobs masquerading as Socialists, the only Socialist thing about them is where they place their X every election, they then satisfy themselves that they've shown concern for 'the poor' and 'social inequality. and then return to their oh so middle class lives.

Silly sausage. I've never been middle class in all my life. Neither am I a Socialist.

Ha ha fair enough. I'm a Tory but I'm not up myself and I've been on many a Sun holiday (will be going on one this year). Plenty of the liberal elite on here wouldn't be seen dead on a Sun holiday 'what me mix with all of those Sun readers'.

I can see you and BG getting on like a house on fire.
