How about 1961 when Jimmy Hill, working for the PFA, managed to get the maximum wage for footballers scrapped ?
And when bang average players with no CV are deemed to be worth £50m

Sounds about right although there was plenty to admire after that... see football mavericks!

As per the other thread Middlesbrough have signed Downing. They are also close to completing a deal for Stuani taking their spending this week to around £10 million.

I think Steve Gibson has always been willing to invest his money in players. But he's also pretty shrewd, and I think he was waiting to ensure he had the right manager in place to spend it well before really going for it.

Liverpool trigger Benteke's release clause. £32.5 million :ffsparr:
Imagine being the person who is left thinking:-

'D'oh, £32.5 million was never going to be enough'.

Transfers warming up now, especially in the north-east.

Middlesbrough had a surfeit of wingers before they signed Downing.

And the Sunderland Echo reckons both Bridcutt and Buckley will be sold if someone is prepared to buy either or both of them?

Huddersfield have beaten Leeds to make their fourth signing of the summer with the arrival of 20yr old striker Jordy Hiwula.

A product of the Man City youth team and looks to be a good signing for them. Starred on loan last season with Walsall scoring 9 goals in 17 appearances.

That's a bit of a kick in the teeth for Poyet's footballing integrity. One player good enough for Real Madrid, and the other worth more than the £10m United paid for Zaha. Chuck the good old letting Murray go scenario, he is a walking disaster.

Javi Guerra has been told he has no future at Cardiff.

Only 3 sub appearances for them last year, but his record in Spain is far better than Hemed, and arguably better than Ulloa as well. Would happily take a punt as looks like he's allowed to leave on a free.
