Crofts has achieved f*** all in his career
Wotton captained Plymoth to two titles.
Wotton is also a proven leader, he may be slightly past it, but he certainly isn't to good to come here, he still has a few years left in him.

I don't think we would want someone who still has a few years left in them .

Nor does Andrew Crofts, which was your example. He scored 7 goals in 50 games. If we get a flair, creative midfielder he will score at least 7 goals next season. There is no doubt about that.

I think the fact that we have struggled to find a goalscoring midfielder since Carpenter suggests that there is doubt about that actually. I agree with your general point, but I think it's very easy to say we need a "creative midfielder who can score 10+ goals a season" but they're clearly not easy to find. Dicker is creative but he doesn't score, Crofts wasn't exactly creative and did (though perhaps not quite as many as you'd ideally like from your top scoring midfielder).

But Wotton is experienced, a proven leader, won't cost much and is only 32 so has a few years left, can't see the problem myself.
