Gave up sugar in tea 30 odd years ago, never looked back though do have a sweet tooth, and gave up cows milk in hot drinks several years ago.
Could be worth trying a sweetened oat or soya milk instead of cows? They may have their downsides too but if you want to replace that little bit of sweetness they could fit the bill. Personally I prefer oat milk in both tea & coffee now, though don't drink vast amounts of either.
