Here is the extent of Sue Gray’s “investigative power”. Ready?…….

She can talk to people who were at the parties.

That tells you all you need to know about what the report will conclude.

I know Keith starmer is very very very boring but if he believes a bottle of wine on a garden table is a party, then please bring back Oliver Cromwell we'll be allowed to have so much more fun!

What else do you want her to? What else is there?

It's not about whether Starmer believes it's a party or not. Fun Time Johnson's own government produced the guidelines that meant the gathering was in breach of rules. I'm sure plenty of people would have liked to gather over a glass of wine after family funerals (or even attended them), or been able to say final goodbyes to loved ones. They couldn't. Why? Because those were the rules set out by Johnson's government.

What Starmer thinks is a "party" or not is a convenient red herring to distract from examining whether it was right and proper to do what those people were doing at a time when they had clearly set out rules to the contrary that large swathes of the population were abiding by.

What I find weird is why Boris Johnson voters would now change their mind? He's plummeted in the pole but when everyone voted they knew he was a pathological liar, has no moral compass, racist, sexist and utterly despises the lower class. Have a guess what we got running our country.

My point is that it should be being investigated by the police. Who can subpoena for phone records, email access, cctv footage. Sue can do none of these things. She has to rely on people at the parties telling her the truth. Not a great method of investigation.

Not so sure anyone really cares about the contents of this report any more. Its release will be swiftly followed by the 54th letter finding its way into Graham Brady's office. That's if it doesn't arrive before.

*attention*

Another political motivated thread aimed to bad mouth the tories.

Haven't we already got multiple ones that do this, where you could say your piece???

You seem to have a problem with the principle of holding the government to account, and want to detract attention away from that and claim that this amounts to anti-Toryism.

Nah, he’s good. Carry on.

Why don’t you start your own thread about how great the Tory party is? NSC is nothing if not permissive of balance and fair debate.

I don't have a crystal ball or a stake in the decision, but Sunak as prime minister is a much bigger step than most people imagine. All your comparisons are spot on, but I think he has little in the way of a public personality or grass root Tory popularity. I think he will prove to be a very hard sell for people to relate to and will be quite easily brushed aside should he stand.

You mean Tories won’t want a “paki” leading the party?
