Enjoyed that, greatly. Saw the original Jam and also loved Style Council.

Weller came across as perefectly decent*. I have no problem with artists being prickley, falling out with people for apparently no reason, etc. Then again I have no desire to be pals with them.

Case in point, one of my favourite artists is Peter Hammill. But he's a very strange man, at one time claiming he invented punk (because Lydon likes his stuff and nicked the start of a track off Nadir's Big Chance as the intro to Anarchy in the UK), and then sacking Dave Jackson, the sax player in Vandergraaf Generator for 'musical differences' after having been band mates for......40 years. FFS

Always aware that when you finally meet your heroes they might let you down. Iron Maiden's singer Bruce Dickinson being an example for me. Incredibly diverse talent but distinctly prickly whilst their drummer Nicko McBrain was a total hoot and really easy going.

I saw Peter Hammill at the Dome on an unusual double bill with Brand X around 1979. Both very good. 'Over' is a go-to album if I want to feel a bit sorry for myself.

They have moved on. Weller has continued creating genius for the next 40 years since. The music then was for their age, they would look as ridiculous as The Rolling Stones if they reformed. Won't happen, thank God.

Weller is genius.

Take Private Hell as a perfect example, a great song that would not work if he sang as in '79.

The new version is stunning.

I was at lunch when PW came into JTG mid 90's, missed him . . . I remember reading a PW interview in the mid 80's saying he'd met his 'hero' Pete Thownsend andf didn't like him . . . .

I was lucky enough to be back stage as a guest when he played Cardiff castle last summer, after the soundchecks he wandered round wherre we were all siting (I was with a support artist) as a group, with Steve Craddock as well ( really nice guy) 'Alright lads' he said, stopped and chatted to a load of people, very laid back and jovial.

I really wanted to say hello, but equally aware I had nothing to say, so I just kept schtum and enjoyed my day out!

The Goldiggers nightclub in Chippenham, was a throwback after watching the program, an old haunt of mine back in the 80's, great music.

I’ve just finished watching this and enjoyed it. I’ve worked on and off with PW for a while and he’s been a cantankerous old goat for most of that time. However, over the last few years he seems to have become much more easy going. Great to see them finish off in 2019, as there was a little bad feeling when Whitey decided to walk away from the Weller machine a few years back.
Also great that PW and Foxton reconnected a few years back(albeit through sad circumstances), unfortunately this meant the end of Bucklers tenure in FTJ - something he could never get over(his choice)

If it's the same day, I think he had been recording with Steve Ellis from the Love Affair in Brighton, and also went into Immediate Clothing. I suspect Ellis was just showing him the sights...

Now Ian MacKenzie knows Steve; apparently friends of the family - but he REALLY wasn't expecting Weller to wander in with him, and especially not for him to buy any T-shirts. It's not often Ian is caught speechless. Would love to have been there to catch his 'guppy' moment.

Suffice to say, when I next wandered in, he was like a big kid telling me what had happened, and he dined out on it for quite a while afterwards.

Coincidentally, I was due to see Weller at the Brighton Centre on Saturday night, when the TV programme was on.

Obviously, it got postponed and has been re-booked for next June. Here's hoping.
