Southampton manager Paul Sturrock has left the club by mutual agreement, the club have confirmed.
Sturrock, who has been in charge for five-and-a-half months, exits St Mary's with immediate effect.

Coach Steve Wigley takes the helm on a temporary basis while the club search for a replacement, with ex-boss Glenn Hoddle sure to be among the favourites.

Hoddle was in the frame to succeed Gordon Strachan but was overlooked amidst strong opposition from fans.

Hmmmm...

I always have some regard for Southampton, being a smallish club continuing to stay in the Premiership. However, Rupert Lowe is behaving like such a w****r

Rupert Lowe does seem to be getting himself more and more in the public eye. Southampton need to be careful, they will start getting through managers at a similar rate to the Albion.
Terrible decision on a footballing note, but if there are other personal reasons there fair enough.

My Soton mate at work reckons that all the staff hated Sturrock from the moment he arrived with his long ball tactics and never turning up to training etc.

Is Rupert the new Deadly Doug!!

Quote from Rupert Lowe:

In a statement, Saints chairman Rupert Lowe blamed negative press reports about Sturrock's reign for his departure.

Lowe said: "Management in the Premier League is highly pressured. When this pressure is compounded by a constant stream of negative and unfair media coverage, which has taken on a life of it's own recently, the position becomes untenable. Those people responsible for perpetrating this unsatisfactory situation, often in return for financial reward, should take a long hard look at themselves."

What a load of f***ing BOLLOCKS. So Rupert Lowe is blaming "negative media coverge" of Sturrock as the reason for sacking him ? Sorry, but that is just a cop-out. Lowe was the one who appointed Sturrock and he should have been prepared to stand by him when the media was dishing the stick. Just have the GUTS to admit that Sturrock was the wrong man for the job for christs sake, instead of blaming the newspapers.

It also makes an utter nonsense of Lowes interview on Match of the Day after the Blackburn game where he said along the lines of "I don't know where all these stories are coming from about this being Paul Sturrocks last chance" etc etc. Lowe is just a pathetic lying weasel who clearly cannot be believed and cannot be trusted.
