I often used to slap six Tesco Value fishfingers between two bits of bread with a healthy serving of tomato SAUCE to keep me going during my student years.

What serves as a good student MEAL these days?

I used to have an unhealthy obsession with Omelette sandwiches when I was a young, happy and free-spirited student wastrel

pizza is one of the easiest things to cook, doesn't take too long and gives a full meal with plenty of variation.

as a student plenty of sausage/bacon/egg sandwiches are always welcome!

We had a kebab shop round the corner that did kebabs wrapped in naan for a quid. The shop next door did two large pizzas for a fiver.

They saw a LOT of business.

Reminds me of the time I went out for the Cup Final, came back rather worse for wear, put a pizza in the oven and promtly fell asleep on my bed. Woke several hours later and it was reduced to a black disc the size of a CD. :D

Chips with sausage and beans on top (as in the sausage and beans in a tin) with loads of cheese grated over is a nice cheap meal :)

Used to live on pasta in my student days, and if I didn't have or couldn't afford a proper pasta sauce then a mixutre of kechup and mayo did the trick.

Hey stranger - I reckon you STILL eat that sometimes when the missus goes away.

Falmer, soon...
French Bread
Sausages
Salad Cream

or:

Jacket Potato x 3 and a tin of Value Baked Beans (with a bit of curry powder in)

or: (if proper skint)

Tinned Tomatoes on toast with a tonne of black pepper.

How did you get 6 fish fingers into a sandwich? - only 4 for me - and mayo - not ketchup.

Chandlers Ford
Small tin of new potatoes [value range] 17p
Small tin of garden peas [value range] 13p
Box of 4 Brains Faggots 99p

Tip the faggots into a plastic bowl. Nuke for 4 minutes.

Tip in the rest. Nuke for 3 more minutes.

£1.29 for a balanced, nutritious meal, that even your Mum would approve of!

And yes I do still eat this when the wife's away, because I am lazy.

Fry a finely choped onion with 1 clove of garlic in a tablespoon of oil for 5 mins add a tin of tomatoes and simmer for 10 mins, pour over a bowl of pasta.
Anything can be added to this for variation, tuna, basil, oregano, cheese etc and it's dead blooming cheap and no need for horrible additives and junk food

Pot Noodle is SURELY the choice of the hardcore tax-dodgers.
There's not even any washing up.
