Header from Gerry Armstrong in front of the South Stand. I was on the East Terrace that evening and had a clear view. I couldn't understand why the goal had been disallowed, as I'm sure Armstrong out-jumped a Forest defender to score. I was 17 then (46 now), so my memory may be failing me. In the return leg at the City Ground, Pearce won a penalty against Steve Gatting (I think). I have always admired Pearce as a tough-as-nails defender, but he went down as if Gatting had assaulted him. Very un-Pearce like.

Ha ha you're referenced in the Guardian report for a first hand account that the goal should have stood!
