The rumour in our lounge was the PiG to Fulham.
A guy who acted like a bit of a **** was giving it large at the bar.

As strong a rumour as the others I reckon.

Has anyone explained why Bridcutt wasn't in the squad yesterday? That seemed very suspicious to me. Anyway, he's no loss, he's been playing poorly ever since he came back from injury and his heart has clearly not been in it for the last three or four matches. If we can get £3m+ it will be one of our best ever sales. We can replace him easily enough with players already in our squad and I have absolutely no doubt that we could also improve our midfield in an attacking sense just by giving Oscar half of the money.

As for Leonardo, it's a totally different story. He is the one player we cannot replace without spending a minimum of £5m and selling your only goalscorer in January is a terrible signal for a club with 24,000 season ticket holders to be giving out. If Bloom/Barber do sell him and we fall down the table, they are leaving themselves open to thousands of non-renewals in April. I wouldn't even consider letting him go unless a silly offer comes in, which means £10m+. He's obviously not worth that as a player, but he's probably worth that to us at this stage of the season and in our position.

The club tweeted that bridcutt, upson and kuszczak were carrying injuries and rested as a precaution. Something they would likely have said to keep up the pretence of picking a weakened team because they had to, not because they weren't taking the competition seriously. You can get away with dropping one or two, but since we made 8 changes there needed to be a reason. Injury to several was our reason.

Of course, it has the added benefit of not cup tie-ing Bridcutt (Or Ulloa), but I don't know that it is a guarantee he is gone yet, just that the club are open to it.

More likely, if there is anything in it, is that he is due to be sold this week and the Albion didn't want to risk him picking up an injury that may compromise any deal.

Yet they played him on NYD?

If Southampton could get Danny Ings with the proceeds of selling Lambert, they'd have done brilliantly. He's from Southampton area too. Could see it happening.

Aren't S'ton looking at players these days (way above what their true club income could afford to pay, due to cash injections from the Liebherr Estate), of a class and cost greater than the likes of Ings? Like many before them, they are planning to be a CL club.

Kuszczak was on the pitch helping Brezovan warm up before the match, kicking the ball for him.

The Liam one has been most vociferous, from a reliable source, Ulloa rumour, well that comes from a staff member so probably rubbish.

cant be bothered to read entire thread but.... Christ, everyone knows about the Bridcutt rumour.

does your "reliable source" work for the club, or against it? are they in a position of trust? do they realise that you can't wait to post everything you hear on here? (ie within seconds of the match finishing).

and is your reliable source someone who says "don't repeat this but....." or wants to say "i told you so", or do they work like tipsters where sooner or later they'll get one right?

Bridcutt isn't the man to keep ??????? in the Premiership anyway.

Bridcutt for £3m? Seems about right for a defensive midfielder with no Premier League experience. Ulloa for £6M ? I think we might take this in the summer but not in January

I wouldn't think Sunderland really care whether Bridcutt is cup tied. All they are interested in now is EPL survival. Gus is probably slightly annoyed they got an easy third round draw (Carlisle at home) and now they have Peterborough or Kidderminster at home in the fourth round, as that means he's got to play at least three extra games. He surely wants them to be knocked out as soon as possible. For that reason, I just don't see that Sunderland would demand Bridcutt is available for the FA Cup, or that they'd be willing to pay any more if he is.

More likely, if there is anything in it, is that he is due to be sold this week and the Albion didn't want to risk him picking up an injury that may compromise any deal.

I think the club are hoping for a bidding war for Bridcutt to drive the price up (possibly to avoid selling to Sunderland, too?) so him not being cup tied might not change things for sunderland (though cup games would give him more game time getting to know team mates) but might be helpful with other suitors.

One of the main complaints about Bridcutt's recent performances is that they've been below par. After a long injury then a lot of games in a short period of time, on heavy pitches, is it really a shock to be rested? Likewise Upson, ever present so far.

I won't take any"Strong rumours" seriously until it's a "Really massively strong rumour"

the only time to take any rumour seriously is when the ink is drying on the contract
