Bumped into andy naylor on the train back from harlepool to thornaby on saturday and among other things he was pointing out our strikers records of late

robinson - no league goals in a year ( 6 in cups but no league goals since hudd hat rick)

revell - 3 goals in 2007

elder - 1 goal (admittadly in limited chances)

bas - 3 goals since march

forster - 2 goals

is it me or would it not be worth getting someone who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net down the traing ground ect in similar way to crichton with the goalkeepers?

if only we could put the ball in the back of the net we would look in a great position at the moment, someone like johnny byrne or mick harford on a part time basis.i think byrne has other commitments but there must be someone out there?

with jake i think his pass and movement are great at the moment but he's lacking that confidence in front of goal, which after going so long with out a goal is no suprise,i know it's hard to recreate the game atmosphere and pressure you only need to look at the way they finish in the warm up to see they can but is someone to help them with the composure in front of goal

i realise it's all about finance but if it meant a few more goals surely it's a riak worth taking?

also naylor said that bob booker had watched the leeds game (for sheff utd) and couldn't believe how much hammond had come on in the time since he left the club,he said how good football people that he spoke to thought hammond was yet most of the fans don't rate him.

seemed like an alright bloke to be fair, but was obvious that he aint no wilkins fan

also lastly but nothing top do with naylor i heard from some1 close to mcghee that if hinch gets back to fitness he wants to take him up there, has been given permission from his chairman do do what ever it takes to get him.a big if he gets fit at the moment though surely

Perhaps Johnny Byrne would be interested in giving his views 1 daya week wouldnt think it will cost the club a lot of money.

We have a man to teach them how to tackle but not run, a man to teach them to pass but not tackle and a man to help get the best reception on your tv so why not one to teach them how to score goals.

Forster was suposed to be the answer to our lack of goals, but that's not been the case so far although injury and poor team performances haven't helped.
Given that it took us three years to get him to sign I won't be expecting another striker until 2010.

I can see Bowditch coming on loan when fit.Don't think Wilkins has given up totally on him.

You cannot serve Steak and Chips if you only have stewing steak to start with. So until we get ther right ingedients to get the best out of Forster i.e a midfielder who can pass a ball to him , did I hear somebody mention Paul Reid, in the team he will struggle.

over the last 4 or 5 games since jake come back into the team we have been creating a lot more chances, and i think if we created these chance with forster up there he may well put some of them away

but surely we need to give these strikers as much chance of putting the ball in the back of the net as possible?

after all the 2 things we are gonna need to do to get anywhere this season is to stop conceding (which at the moment we have done) and score goals (which we are getting the chances but not scoring)

Are you suggesting that if we don't concede any goals, and score lots ourselves, we will be succesful? Thats BRILLIANT. Have you suggested this on 'ask the club'?

But you can knock out a mean ghoulash with stewing steak so what is your point?

Having watched the Res the other evening I would say that Reid is nearing fitness and showed a good range of [passes to both the forwards and the wide men I would suggest playing him alongside Hammond in the middle and Fraser/O'Callaghan infront of the back 4 with Cox wide left Robinson wide right/striker with Forster down the middle. 2 out of 3 Savage Elder Revell on the bench to come on as needed so my team would be:

Kuipers (Cos we have no alternative)

Whing
Elphick
El Abd
Richards

Fraser/O'Callaghan

Robinson
Reid
Hammond
Cox

Forster

Subs:

O Sullivan
Butters
Elder
Savage
Fraser/O'Callaghan

I don't see that a back four who have conceded TWO goals in SIX matches really need the extra protection of Fraser sitting in front of them getting in the way. 442 works. Its what the players know and understand. Anything else is doomed to failure with both England and the Albion.

Would love to see Reid back, but preferably on the right of a 4 man midfield, with Forster and Robinson up front, and Savage straining at the leash if its not working.

Of course people will continue to cry out for Bas to start, and fair play if he does - he's earnt the chance - but the fact remains that he has been more potent coming off the bench.

That is when he is at his best when other legs are tiring and his are fresh.

I think on the right of midfield he might be an option.

However I have quite impressed with Martot, he looks a better footballer than a lof of our players.
yer thats where reid is at his best

martot im not sure on him at the moment, think he could be a decent player but dont think he has shown enough so far

What about Lynch (due back soon) and Revell? I'd have...

Kuipers (again, because we don't have a choice)

Whing
Elphick
Lynch
Richards

Fraser

Hammond
O'Callaghan (who can pass but needs to be further up the pitch)
Cox

Revell
Forster

Subs
O'Sullevan
El Abd
Rents
Savage
Robinson

I had disregarded both Lynch and Hinshlewood because I am not convinced that they will be fit enough for long enough to make a sizeable contribution to this season.
