I'm sure this area is being worked on. It will take time to materialise into the goal fest we all want to see.

Last night I was pleased to see a bit less faffing about in the area.
Maupay took his chances first time, rather than taking an unnecessary touch.
Trossard's miss was on target and saved by the keeper's foot.
I also think MacAllister's increased involvement will sharpen things up as he looks to be more direct.
Ok It didn't result in any goals, against a well disciplined defence, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. IMO like.

as an aside, I'm surprised at the lack of mentions for Ali Mac's sublime flick to put Maupay in. Anyone got a gif?

I would have thought that Danny Welbeck would have the experience of striker coaches at Manure and Arse. The psychologist idea may be the better answer as its a memory thing, people generally focus on the things they have done badly rather than those they have done well (so do supporters). I thought GP had qualifications in sports psychology.

It's not just a striker thing, Dunk and Webster haven't done brilliantly from the number of clear headers they've won in the opponents box and Gross has missed a couple. It seems to run throughout the team.

All these players will have scored lots of goals at every level as they came through to where they are now, and they haven't suddenly forgotten. I'm with Swansman that the issue is psychological across the team and squad. Miss chances, more pressure, more snatching at chances, more missed chances, more pressure, more snatching etc etc

The problems are all in their heads, but short of a long weekend on the Pizza and Puff at Swansman's, I really don't know how we get them to relax and simply do what they've been doing their whole lives

Most fans might indeed think he'd have a lot to offer, but most fans have literally no idea whether any of those would make good coaches. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you can teach others. I'd hazard a guess there's someone on the coaching staff already that specializes in strikers - that's maybe the person that should be getting the tin tack.........pretty sure Potter, Ashworth et al are aware of our shortcomings and trying to do something about it.

Spot on. On MOTD the other night Lineker, Shearer and Wright were saying how they used to get their confidence up by staying behind after training and kicking the ball into an empty goal. Interesting that none of them became successful coaches!

I thought we were going to get our confidence up by smashing Blackpool

Agree that scoring goals is a very particular skill which not many have.

33% in the brain (the movement and confidence etc). This can be coached
33% you're just born with it or your not. Muzza was. You know a player who has got this when you see it. Can't really be coached
33% just hard yards in training. Taking 1000 shots a day, recording your score, then trying to beat it the next day. Just hard work needed

I think this is absolutely right. Whoever is coaching our forwards is not teaching them how to score goals.
