I had a very long debate with someone on Twitter who refused to believe that Barnet and Croydon are now in Greater London.

Their argument was on the basis that they had retained their original post codes and the post office lists their branch addresses as "Croydon, Surrey" or "East Barnet. Herts.

This led to the somewhat bizarre realisation that the post office have retained the historical addresses even though both areas moved into London in the 60s.

Next time you pick up a guitar, consider the shape of it. It's a metaphor for a woman.

When you play it, you are cradling, or playing, a woman.

I only found this out tonight while watching a re-run of Michael Palin's Brazil.

I still regard a lot of places as being in Middlesex even though it was abolished before I was born. If someone mentions, say, Uxbridge, I'll always regard that as Middlesex. I couldn't tell you where it is now.

Presumably this particular woman was doing the night fever dance

For me..

Today I've just had to work out how many centimetres there are to a metre and only did so by assumption of the Latin in 'centimetre'. I realised that I didn't actually know the answer. I always use Imperial.

Wow.

Tomorrow I'll explain to you what percentages are all about, if you like.

I'm 50 and have been driving for 37 years. Last year I found out that there is a little arrow on your fuel gauge that points to the side your fuel cap is. Never knew - always look now each time I go into a petrol station!

The HP in HP sauce stands for House Of Parliament

On a similar theme, when someone recently told me that there is a picture of a decomposing lion surrounded by a swarm of flies (I think they are actually bees) on a tin of Tate & Lyle Golden Syrup, I had to go and check…

And there is. Brand Management was obviously in its infancy back then.

“Right - just the tin to design now; any suggestions? No such thing as a bad idea, chaps!”

“Err - how about a dead lion? Surrounded by flies?”

“Genius!”

Although being around at the time and remembering other bands from that era, I didn't know the Bay City Rollers existed until the 90s.

It's always confused me and I must have been born with a Bay City Rollers filter.

Well, you learn something new every day! Interesting - Why Is The Lion On Lyle's Golden Syrup Tins Dead And Being Eaten By Bees?

The lion is surrounded by bees, and I think references something from the bible.

I've been around over five decades and only last year did I realise that you can avoid finding that pesky bloody instruction leaflet in boxes of drugs by NOT opening the white end of the box.

I’ve just spent a few moments finding out this isn’t the case with Tesco Paracetamol.
The instruction leaflet is at the white end in a box of their Ibuprofen though.
