Stop the short corners

The reason why Poyet likes us to use short corners is that it means the defending team have to pull 2 defenders out to deal with it. If only 1 defender comes out, then 2 on 1 should always win. If 2 defenders come out, thats 1 less in the box to mark one of ours. Just because we get someone to go short to draw them out doesn't mean we need to play it short. Simple.

We did this the other day. what is wrong with doing something different every now and then, especially against a team like colchester. Our set pieces were excellent tonight, Gus and Tanno obviously know what they're doing in this area as the movement, runs, and balls in the box were pretty much bang on.

Correction - the free kicks were good not soo much the corners

Fair point, but I still think a short corner at the right time is more effective than just lofting it into the box every corner. They buggered it up a bit tonight because they didn't get the cross in for some reason, but that's no reason to never do it again.

Yeah nothing wrong with trying something different but like I have said it isn't as if we don't have players in the box who cannot win headers? We
scored with elphick the other weekend from a corner

Has never worked for us! Mullery used to play short corners when we shooting up the leagues. Can't ever remember us scoring from one!

Equally, it means we have one less player in the box too

No, for a long corner the defence does not need to pull anyone out of the box. If we pull one attacker out for a short corner they must then pull two defenders out giving us a net gain of one. This is why teams often set up for a short corner and then play it long, but sometimes you must actually play it short to keep the defence guessing.
