Stop riding mobility scooters around supermarkets!!!!

People can listen all day long, it does not stop the arseholes who keep using the spaces provided for the disabled, also people using disabled badges / stickers in the car windows who have obtained them by wrong means are also on the rise, sadly like many things when the odd person is caught, the punishment is not enough to deter people abusing the systems.
Brighton and Hove magistrates are notoriously lenient.

This is from Mobilise Magazine:-

It seems motorists have the most amusing excuses when it comes to abusing the Blue Badge scheme. This months excuse comes from a motorists from Hove in Sussex convicted of using her friend's disabled parking badge. Sheena Bajmaloo, 47, told magistrates she had used the badge because "she did not wish to miss getting her nails done!"

Apparently she was found by a community police officer in a salon. When her picture did not match that on the badge, and she admitted that the person pictured was dead, the officer did his duty. In court however, she discovered just how lucky she was, she was only fined £250. Had this case come up in Manchester, for instance, it would probably been £1000 plus costs. Don't the Sussex magistrates realise how important it is to stamp out this sort of abuse?

Slightly off topic but why do parent & child bays exist? If the baby is small, they have a pushchair & if the child can walk, then they don't need spaces near the door.

Say's it all really........Not wishing to change the course of the thread, but this country is VERY good at catching people doing wrong (in the main and compared to many other countries!) but we are not very good at making the penaltys match the offence!! I have 3 or 4 very good friends up here in the South Wales police force and they get frustrated on a virtual daily basis when they see all there hard work and efforts go straight down the pan when "Prowper nawty little person" gets a sentance that in most cases can only be described as a joke!!! anyway.....onwards and upwards and all that.......

Oh and Edit......do i agree with the death penalty........to F******g right I do!!!

Normal bays are small, and you can only open your door halfway. Parents need to open the door wide so that they can undo seatbelts and lift the children out.

Whilst i actually agree with you......so how would you, or the government etc etc, stop the piss takers?
Good point - perhaps the people that monitor the car parks and slap on tickets when you're 2 minutes over your allotted time, could spend a few more useful minutes in their busy schedule monitoring the disabled bays?

It's somewhat ironic with the Olympic " legacy " being large in everyone's minds that so many people cruise around supermarket car parks desperate to avoid a walk of more than 30M. So, no wonder there is total disregard for disabled/mother child parking. 80% of the population are just lazy/ignorant.

You always get one.
The point being made is that: There are people with real need, and I am not saying they should not have them. What I am saying, is there is a lot of people who have them and do not require them. The system is being abused and the people that suffer are the ones in most need. One more point, you may have to jump through hoops to get one, however if you want to abuse the system, search the internet they will give you an idea how to fool a doctor. Have you seen the TV programmes where people claim Disability or that they are unfit to work. I remember the old man a few years ago break dancing on BGT and claiming disability.
Please do not tell me that everyone who parks in a disabled bay has a real need to.
Absolutely, half of them are running into KFC.... and that's the problem; those that need it are being abused by the lazy twats who can't park 20 yards away... there needs to be some better way of policing this. Those that need these spaces don't always show a visible disability. Unfortunately some ignorant people don't see that... I'm not sure how they breath sometimes... after all, you can't see air can you..?

.......... and then the parking attendant books a car in a bona fide space for being 2 minutes overtime, meanwhile the lazy gits are filling up the blue badge and child spaces. I saw Tom Daley and his clan do this in my local Morrisons , makes my piss boil.

I understand that but why do they have to be near the door? They can have wide bays elsewhere in the car park.

Four wheels good, Two legs bad (or should that be two Bad Legs)

I am saving up for souped-up mobility scooter (The Mighty Bolt) so I can do some running over of pedestrians!

TBH, I have never seen anyone getting any sort of ticket or telling off in a supermarket car park. Although they put up warning notices, when the chips are down, they do not want to lose a customer. Same thing with the shopping trolleys, there are always warnings/guidelines on putting kids in trolleys. Anyone ever see a member of staff tell a customer to get a kid out of a trolley ?......

There is so much green-eyed monster in peoples reaction to the disabled...'they're getting disability..I'm not'....'they get wide bays near the door of supermarkets...I have to look for a narrow parking bay 50 odd metres from the door'.. I know this from my familys medical problems.I was on dialysis for 8 years then got a transplant which is not working well, have had major surgery on my stomach, have heart and valve problems...yet I can walk, albeit slowly and have to keep stopping, My wife also had a transplant and they took off her toes, then her foot, then her leg and her heart gave out at the age of 49. We had 3 children with disabilities and you could not believe the grief we got when we had a disabled bay put outside our house. One neighbour even asked my GP what was wrong with our family and why were we getting disability...my GP told them that they would'nt like half of our problems.
I don't ask for sympathy from anyone, just understanding that there are people with disabilities that may not show at first glance...yes there are people who abuse the system but please do not tar everyone with the same brush.
Also remember you might get problems with health, and one day you might be old, then you'll find your view on disabilities a bit different.
The days of sickness and exhaustion are often...I have my family and the Albion so I'm blessed.:cheers:

Then you are a prize prat, with little or no understanding of disability. I don't need you or anyone else to tell me when and where I can go shopping.

Just come back from the states where you follow someone into the supermarkets (walking faster than me) who then pop the're money in the scooter and ride off into the store.
Not all riders are disabled.

Being disabled is a bitch, I was 31 when it started and it's no bloody fun, and having people stare at you when you use the badge and at time even tut because I don't have an outward sign of heart trouble is no help at all. Of course there are people using the badge incorrectly but please, please don't assume that someone should not be using it because they don't have a chair, a stick or a bandage.
I hate using the badge because it makes me stand out as something different but I honestly have no choice.

Here, there and everywhere

If you have a small child the last thing you want is to have to trek across a dangerous carpark with them, especially if you have shopping or a trolley to carry as well. You don't want to risk getting run over by some nutter who can't see a small person by your side.
