Something a bit clinical about that woman. IMHO. Typical sneery six-month tourist with a credit card and a flight ticket tucked in her back pocket. False sense of security, completely oblivious to the fact that she's not in her Safe European Home. Thinks she knows the place. Thinks it's 'cool' to leave her blonde fifteen year old in the care of a pony-tailed local lad ten years her elder.

She FAILED that girl. Hope they throw the book at her.

Goa mother faces 'neglect' probe

Scarlett was last seen alive at a beach bar
The mother of a British girl found dead on a beach in Goa has said police may question her about possible negligence.
Fiona MacKeown left her daughter Scarlett Keeling, 15, in Goa while she travelled to another part of India.

The family's lawyer accused the Indian authorities of trying to shift blame and said Scarlett had been left in the care of two local women.

Mrs Keeling told the BBC: "I don't think I was negligent. I just think I was naive."

Indian police originally insisted that Scarlett had drowned but a man has now been charged with her rape.

'Out of proportion'

The superintendent of police, Bosco George, in Goa, told the BBC "we will have to question the mother" but they would not say in connection with what.

He also said they have made no formal or informal request to ask her to come for questioning.

JP Singh, chief secretary to the government of Goa, told the BBC the case had been blown out of proportion.

He said the coverage of the case had overlooked basic facts including that the 15-year-old had been left alone and had a history of drug abuse.

Indian police have faced severe criticism over their handling of the case.

Goa's Tourism Minister Francisco X Pacheco accused officers of deliberately trying to cover up Miss Keeling's murder.

Local man Samson D'Souza, 29, appeared in court on Monday charged with her rape but not with murder.

Agree with you THPP, what was the mother thinking of leaving a 15 year old girl alone in a foreign country whilst she swanned off somewhere else. And why wasn't the girl attending school either?

Of course it wasn't exactly the mother's fault what happened to her daughter but seems to me she was asking for trouble.

Nothing like it

They left a 3 year old on their own, in a foreign country, while they swanned off and had a good evening, where no doubt they ate and drank a fair bit. Even if just for half an hour at a time (which i think is bollocks, but htat's personal opinion) That child is now missing (and probably dead somewhere) due to negligence.

Why hasnt anyone thrown the book at them? Oh, could it be that theyre middle class professionals? Definitely.

Thats the difference, this parent looks like she is going to get done for neglect where as the macanns have not.

Half of me thinks yeah, throw the book at these idiots who fail to deliver proper care to their children and the other half thinks that there is no point in punishing them as what punishment could top that of losing your child?

Totally agree - I thought that as soon as I read the story. No kid should have been left in that situation.

There are so many things wrong with this story. It makes me really sad to think that there are children out there with dead beat parents who leave them, like has apparently happened in this case, at the drop of a hat and don't tend to their most basic of needs.

I don't think it's naivety either, it's sheer stupidity.
